Oil Pan Plug vs. Suction C32AMG
Is there a specific reason why MB engine oil and filter change procedure AP18-00-P-010AE calls for a vacuum engine oil remover along with removal of the drain plug to extract engine oil?. Is one procedure technically superior over the other?.. I have no problem with removing the underbody panels and crawling around. Gives me a chance to reflect/ nap away from the hubbub.

I'm not sure about the C32 and the V6, but my C55 has two drain plugs and using the sucker will not remove all the oil. I would just use the drain plug (or plugs) and skip the extractor.

When I was in Korea, most mech used suction machine (not a cheap suction machine) to change oil on AMG line ups..
It does the job but I would still prefer good oil drainage.

With the placement of our oil filters, I prefer the suction method because it's quick, clean, and I don't have to jack up the car. I can't speak for the C55, but I definitely get all the oil out with my fluid extractor. It has measurements and I'm always pulling out over 8 qts.

I just put the front of the car on jack stands, pulled off the front cover under car (6 bolts or so) and drained it there. You'll want to be sure to get a new crush washer for the dain plug (few cents, the dealer will have them). I got just as much oil out as those who pumped it and didn't have to buy a pump to do the job. Took me all of 30 mins begin to end.

Oh and to your question...the specific reason the shop does it that way is becasue you can save a few minutes with one of those pumps...when a shop is doing a large volume of oil changes a year that adds up.

the actual reason for the suction drain is that the drain plug is a one time use plug and req. replacement of the plug and crush washer. the suction methad avoids this step in the drain process

My dealer uses the vacuum on my E, but drains my C32. I think MB says that the AMGs need to be drained, while other models can be changed via the vacuum method.

The plugs reusable. Only crush washer needs changed out (.50 at dealer if you want to pay too much for one)

Except that is says it only applies to 211 and 230 chassis. Changed my oil 3 times so far with the plugs and have only replaced the copper seal with no leaks.

i had the same leak on my 32. just an annoying drip. replaced the plug and no more drip. my plug had the same type of sealant on the threads as the new plug.

Did mine today in auto class, drained the oil from the drain bolt. I had to replace the pilot bushing aswell as the pan seal. Drained about 4 courts that way, filled it up with 4 1/2 quarts of oil from the dealer.
