Check your front sway bar under the bushing

For those who have the stock front sway bar, you might want to check the condition under the bushing. Here's what mine looked like:

That definitely doesn't look good. I guess the only way to find out would be to remove the sway bar and move the busing to see if it's corroding. Were you experiencing any problems?

This was found when I replaced the bar with the Eibach. You may be able to see what's going on by slipping off the covers on either side of the bushing. The picture doesn't really show the extent of the corrosion. Where the bushing rides is significantly smaller in diameter on the driver side. The passenger side is just starting to corrode.

I was just informed by Mercedes dealership that I need new bushings....should I just get aftermarket sway bars and call it a day?? Can you do the work yourself easily?

If you are happy with the handling and don't track the car, then replacing the bushings is very inexpensive. DIY link posted in another reply to the thread. Front bar repacement is easier than the rear. Replacing just the bushings is easy both ends.

Doesn't look too bad to me? Some amount of surface rust/corrosion is normal as the car ages.

Would you also get noise coming from the front suspension area when the front bar/bushings are in bad shape like these were? Trying to figure out what causes the noise when going over speed bumps or other small bumps on my C32.

I was thinking the same thing, its very minor surface corrosion.. I don't see what the big deal is? Most mercedes I see have similar rust. it's not like it was in danger of rusting out or through or anything...
