Yea perhaps there is a way. I'll have my brother take a look, he'll probably know an easier way. If try to do it...well it could end up pretty bad. lol

You know, this car is sort of like a hot girlfreind. Always asking for more money, but you can't help but obey because her ride is just so..amazing! Thanks for your help Viet I'll keep everyone updated on the journey.

The other comments made me curious and made me listen to your video in another computer and not a Netbook

That does sound kinda odd and not the same rattle that my C32 has which is more of a clicking sound.

You will love her even more once you start modding her and beat C6 Vettes, E92/90 M3 and the likes.

I apologize for the mis-info, good luck and keep us updated.

I've been through a lot of problems with my C32... No joke too many... Most of us have, so be prepared, and save some extra $$$...

Looks like the front section of the supercharger can be removed. The oil cooler might be in the way of right side bolts.

As I said though how can the sound be the supercharger if you grab the clutch at idle the charger is completely offline... Did you give that a try?

I've tried to keep that in mind. When you say the clutch...are you talking about the yellow portion in the middle or the top of the pulley? (the smooth black part)

(Everything I do is usually done with the watchful eye of my brother so I don't screw anything up)

The more this goes on the more I'm tempted just to spend 2k at the dealer. But I'd like to learn how to work on my own car rather than always taking it to the dealer for a change.

Look at the above photograph. The electromagnetic clutch sits right behind the supercharger pulley. You'll notice it spins slightly when the vehicle is at idle. It's job is to engage and disengage the supercharger through electromagnetic coupling of the belt pulley and clutch.

Sweet mother of AMG we're making progress....

ok so I went out to the car and held the clutch, immediately the noise became louder and more prominent. As soon as I let go - back to the noise it was making in the video at idle.

Any ideas? (getting a bit excited here)

Was it hard to stop the clutch from spinning?

I used a mitten (you know the kind you use to detail your car) and I don't believe it took much force to stop it personally. A push with a thumb and finger was enough. It didn't immediately stop, as I applied pressure it slowed down. With enough pressure (not much) it stopped. As soon as I let go it sped right back up again.

I can't really think of anything to compare it to.

I hate to say it but in this case it would appear to be the electromagnetic clutch itself. This is a $1200 part at the dealership.

yea, if your bearing are ok.. then its your supercharger coupler is worned..too much freeplays...

Im planning to do my S soon..

here's a ref: its in Vietnamese Lol

*sigh* Figures... lol Well it needs what it needs I guess.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you think it's the clutch? Would SHOULD it do when I stop it.

If it were the supercharger the sound would go away when you stop the clutch. The clutch during idle has some charge to couple for slight rotation of the rotors allowing better airflow when the supercharger is disengaged. It isn't all that uncommon for the clutch to fail at higher mileage or in general.

Good to know. I don't mind shelling out the cash, I just want to make sure it's for the right thing. I suppose when I head to the dealship I could have them take a look to be sure.

You guys hear that? It's not the clutch..it's the wife. lol "But sweetheart it just rides much better than you do"

All joking aside I really appreciate your help gt4awd and everyone else. I'll be sure to update as soon as it's replaced. Will probably take a week before I can order the part (just spend 6k purchasing inventory for our store here in town)

One more thing, I didn't notice any guides for changing out the clutch. Plenty for bearings etc. I'll do a search real quick but if anybody has a link I'd be appreciative.

There is something you can do right now to further diagnose. The electrical connection for the clutch is to the left of the clutch. Unplug it and see what happens.

Yea I did notice that connection. I'll go shut it off right now and see what happens.

Can I remove the connector and THEN start the car? (Don't want to damage anything further)

Don't mod the thing or you'll never get any, LOL...

I have a feeling you could find the clutch a lot cheaper than MSRP. Maybe someone else knows where to purchase a used or refurbished clutch...

Yes, I don't think you will get a CEL either. Unless you went for a drive and tried to boost.

Not to worried about that worst case I'll clear it with the OBD meter. I'll go give that a shot and report back.

ok so unplugging the electromagnetic clutch makes no difference at all.. Same sound same symptoms. I created another video demonstrating everything. Give me a moment to upload it to Youtube and I'll post back

That's strange... I would have assumed no more sound after unplugging the clutch. Did it stop spinning while unplugged?
