Tyres...?
Hi guys,
What are the best tyres to get for a C55 AMG?
At the moment I have Pirelli PZeroRosso all roundwhich I find to be useless, specially in the wet and always struggling for traction.
so what do you guys recommend?![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Thanks,
Joey.

I went with the Pirelli PZero Nero all seasons. So far they have performed adequtely, though I am yet to test them in really tricky conditions. A full set from Tirerack was only $675, so the price was right.

Hey xxaarraa,
I believe they come with Pirelli's from factory but I just can't seem to get traction in the wet, I was doing 40mph the other day, foot down and the backend started to go.. :S

They come with Rosso summer tires from factory. The Pirelli all seasons are Neros. How many miles do you have on your tires? After 10-12k, the rears are no good.

I hope your not talking about having your foot all the way down at 40 mph, with that much torque I would not try it even with better tires.

I changes tires to Hankook Ventus V12's Evo K110's with my last tire change. I do not track or race the car, just normal - sometimes spirited

I do not drive my car in anything but dry weather so I cannot comment on their handling characteristics in wet weather or in the snow (not that you would take your C55 out in the snow anyway).
I have about 5,000 miles on them so far and they seem to have lots of tread life left. Time will tell how long they last.
I got 11,000 miles on the OEM set of rear PZero's. Bought new PZero's for the rears and the fronts were shot at 17,000 miles. At that time the rear's did not look all that great, so I decided to replace all four with the Hankook's.

Thanks for the advice so far people![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Mike, very interesting about the Hankook, to be fair all i've hurd is good feedback about them and seem like a bargin.
I'm not a big fan of the Rosso's, do not rate them at all.
Has anybody on here fitted an LSD to their 55?

Aston Martin V8 Vantage
I'm running factory sizes currently on them, but I'm getting new rear ps2's next week and thinking about going 255 with them.it's a $715 mistake if I'm stuck with the 255 and they don't fit though (that price is wayy below what they should be sold for btw)

Im running Continental Extreme Contact DW on my summer wheels.. and Continental Extreme Contact DWS on my winter wheels. If you go to tire rack and look at the ratings you will find they are some of the top tires

I am running 255s in rear with no problem.

I am also running Continentals for both the summer and winter. My summer setup is 235s up front and 255s out back. I am running 225s all around in winter and this car cuts through a few inches of snow with no issues at all.

Did you notice any difference in driving? when running 255 all round, apart from the fact you get allot more traction.

The fronts won't take any more than 235s. Mine had 245s on the front when I bought it, but they did rub when you had the wheel turned all the way. I would suggest the 235/255 setup

Go for the Conti Extremecontact DW or DWS - I have a set of each - great tires and come with a great warranty. I had Pirellis Pzero, then Yokohama S Drive. Both made a lot of noise and vibration and wore out fast. The conti's are excellent all around tires and very quiet/smooth. They don't look as cool as PS2's but they last a lot longer and are much quieter.

E55 Cannon, i'm curious how old the S Drives were that you have (or had). From the review from tirerack they were very highly rated. I know that Yokohama has been evolving this tire over time and back in 2008 when they ran the test they didn't do so well

Petej,
I've had two cars with S drives - the first was an '03 S55 and the last was an '3 E55. I put the S drives on the S55 in 2008 and late 2009 on the E55. I wrecked the S55 so I didn't have the tires on long enough to know. After about 12,000 miles, the S drives became very noisy. At the time, the suspension was stock and I rotated my tires regularly. I've since switched to continental extreme contacts and am much happier. Plus they are less expensive and carry a warranty.

Definately go with Michelin. Pirelllis are junk: poor traction, poor life, and poor ride. I changed my rears when they wore out to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and I've already passed the 3k miles I got out of the more expensive P-Zeros. I think I'm going to try and go with the PS2 next but for the money the A/S Plus is a fantastic tire and I wouldn't hesitate to go with it again. The A/S Plus also has a warranty if there is worry about that.

Continental ExtremeContact DW!
Just went autocrossing with them, and the car turned into a go kart (C55). I upgraded from Bridgestone RE760 sports. The difference is night and day. Either the DWs are that good, or the RE760s are really bad. DWs hook up really well, even with ESP OFF. At 40psi all around, they were very easy to manage, and the car did not fishtail out of tight turns. You can get them to slide, but they imediately hook up once you point straight.
As far as every day driving, the the ride comfort is noticeably better. Much smoother over bumps. Quieter too.
In any case, very sticky tires, rated about the same as the Michellin PS2, but will cost you much less, especially the rear tires.
