best TIRE - Hankook v12 v Kuhmo XS v Wide Oval v falken 452 v Falken 615

priority is steering response and dry grip, have great suspension mods and carving mountain roads is a my passion. ive tried star specs , so3, sport maxx, gsd3, etc. average 7-8kmiles per set, unfortunately, i have an ill family member with significant medical bills, so must scale back to $100 per tire category, hopefully, down the road re11 or yoko a08 will find a way onto the sled. thanx , mike

Try the Pirelli PZero Nero - 255/35/R18 tires, they are approx $167 - $174 a tire with 400 tread wear; they should last you alot longer milage wise (approx 30k-40k miles depending on driving habits) and still in the same performance catergory as the factory tires (Pirelli Pzero Rosso - 245/35/R18 approx $303 - $316 a tire 220 tread wear; usually last 10k-15k if your lucky), and IMO they have equal if not better handling in dry and wet as they are a All Season performance tires.

I have them on my car and I went with the Pirelli Pzero Nero - 255/35/R18 in the rear and the slightly wider stance makes it feel more planted also and controlled in the rear. There is no rubbing or any mods needed if mounted on stock OEM rims.

Check out these other tire threads also.

Need tires for new wheels

Go to GrassRootsMotorsports online, they just did an autocross review on those tires.

I believe this is the article kent426 is referring to: GrassRootsMotorSports - Top Tires (Hankook, Kuhmo, Falken)

Kuhmo does make a good tire; I had the Kumho Ecsta ASX (Ultra High Performance All-Season) tires on another Mercedes-Benz and all 3 sets lasted about 40k miles each. The ride is a little bit harder but well worth it for better grip and wet handling over the factory Michelin Pilot Sport 2 that came on the car, that only lasted 15k.

Here are a few video reviews from TireRack.com that test the 2 different versions of the Pirelli Pzero Nero and comparable tires (BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S, Continential ExtremeContact DWS, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, Pirelli Pzero Nero All Season)

Search TireRack.com for reviews and videos on the tires you are considering they put them through different tests (Wet, Dry, Snow, Handling, Grip, etc...)

The hankooks are the best, check out the C & D article:

I have had them on previous cars, excellent response and quiet tires! As you can see, the hankooks are superior and just as good or better than the pilot sports, etc.

I agree with C55Miami. I switched to the Hankook V12's a year ago. The handling feels the same to me as the stock Pirelli's - at roughly 1/2 the price. I only drive on dry roads so I cannot comment on wet handling from personal experience. However, if you read the C&D article, they claim it was second best in the wet out of 10 tires.

You are not going to get them for $100 each - not the rears anyway. They will be close to half the price of the Pirelli's though and cheaper than the other tires I'd bet.

Good luck.
