Here is the difference between the C32 aribox and the SL55 hose, not too much of a difference but not a direct bolt on.

Like what Vadim says the air box is where most of the restriction located as air enters from the side of the air filter.

My guess is a hose about 3 inch diameter and 2.5 inch on the other end!

You would need a small breather filter too if not using the factory hoses.

BMW E30. I've turned to the dark side.
i've had the air intake runners off a 32amg engine and off the e55 eng, the area that looks to be the biggest restriction is the bend at the rear of the aluminum intake runners from the "Y". i am new to modifying as i just bought my c32 in august. is the "Y" that you guys are talking about in this thread the plastic one from the air filter boxes? one other note: all you guys in nor-cal w/ 02 c32's, i will change your fuel trim, ign trim and other coding after hours if you so desire. i'm not looking for extra work/bussiness, i just don't think the dealer will co-operate as much as i will. i've done both to my car but can't honestly feel a diff. my engine control unit is also coded "euro 03"
instead of USA-LEV. not much difference either. sorry got OT. i might think of the sl55 "y" though if it's just the plastic part

the part alone will cost around $150 plus installation. it's not just the "y" pipe alone.

since you brought it up, now I'm looking to get this done as well. Does anyone know any place/shop that can do this mod without me getting the parts by myself?

Cars and boats!
Ive done the install on 4 C32s already!!! The mod is a bit effective IMO but only if you have increased boost (Via ECU upgrade and Crankshaft Pulley Kit) and a highflowing airbox (via K&N, BYM, ITG, or GreenFilterUSA drop in filteres). On LoePlayas car we felt the bit of difference on top end!!! How you ask? Well, we raced our cars before the install and after the install and he definately pulled harder on top after the SL55 intake splitter mod. The install isnt too hard after you've had experience with it. The only problem I had was tryign to get the rubber hoses back there to clear these metal clips on your firewall. With some patience and lots and lots of cursing the job was done. Right now I am looking into getting a set of samco hoses that would be made to fit and replace the rubber connectors. I still dont like the idea of cutting the stock hoses and using them as backing to connect to the airbox. Pierre, your inventive.. got any ideas?

Also for some reason, Ive managed to stretch the SL55 hoses right up to the airbox on my car which I havnt been able to do on the 3 other cars I did the install on.
