OK I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to all this talk about the ECU tune, but I have some questions. I have a stock 06' C55 with an extended warranty. Bought it about 6 months ago and I love the car!! I really don't think I want to do anything to the car, but I hear about so many people here raving about it. I'm not interested in turning my car into an bigger gas guzzling beast. But I've heard people say that some tunes actually make the car more efficient. Also I saw someone here mentioned the shifting can be sped up with a tune. I notice when driving the car in manual mode (I rarely do!) the shifts are sooo sooo slow and sluggish. It's part of the reason I never use it. Does a tune help with this? Will this have any long term negative impact on my car in anyway?
Exactly what does the ECU tune entail? My limited understanding is that it's just a flash/update to the software running on the ECU? Is it an actual replacement of the Control Unit?
sorry to be such a n00b and thanks in advance!

It changes parameters in your factory tune dealing with ignition timing as well as the fuel maps. I can't speak for these guys' tunes, but generally your timing will be slightly advanced, they'll lean the car out a little more, probably turn down knock retard a bit, and remove your speed limiter.
