C32 with SLK32 engine
Just got my 32 back this morning after a failed attempt yesterday when the IC pump died on the way home from AMG after a 2 month long operation installing my new '05 SLK 32 motor. I have mentioned this before, but didn't get much response - My AMG technician tells me that he did not install my 185mm pulley (from my previous C32 motor) because the SLK has a 5mm bigger crank pulley and a 5mm bigger supercharger pulley than the C32, plus the heads have been reworked - all from the factory? Is this true because my C32 is going like a boeing at the moment - it never used to wheelspin much, now it's hard to keep in a straight line and the back steps out on every corner. It seems to have gained another 15-20kw and the exhaust note is a lot deeper and louder and it sounds like a track car with no back seat inside the cabin. I used to hit 200kmph on the straight behind my house - today I clocked 211kmph. My car used to be quick pushing out 270kw on the rear wheels on the dyno, but now I reckon it might be 285 - 290kw or have I just inhaled too much tyre smoke? Anyone else dropped in an SLK motor into a C32? Ps. I'm the guy who broke his 2 previous C32 motors - this is engine # 3.

I'm starting to see why you have gone through two motors.

As usual I have jumped the gun and spoken absolute *%$#@ before getting my facts straight. You are all correct - the SLK 32 is the exact same engine except for the oil pan and flywheel and it makes the same power. The last year of production was '04 so I got that wrong aswell. Apologies.
However - The low mileage motor I managed to get hold of has had some nice mods done to it. I am 100% correct in saying that my latest motor has a 5mm bigger crank pulley and a 5mm bigger supercharger pulley than standard as we measured them on a bench against stock ones. The AMG guys have never seen this before so any info would be great. The heads have also had some work done - looks like cams and valves and this little gem is wild. Add to that all my other mods and after 1 weekend with it back I am already calling around for new rear tyre prices. It is unfortunately up for sale and I am only driving it for the week to make sure we have no oil leaks, rattles or squeaks after the new motor installation.

that makes no sense to me. going with a 5 mm bigger crank pulley would inc boost but you reduce the size of the s/c pulley to again inc boost (ie: running stacked pulleys) not enlarge it. sounds like you would be back to square 1 as the c3 pulley makes the same boost as a 178 crank pulley
having all the mods you speak of on this engine and your ecu without a custom tune to accommodate these mods the next guy who buys this car will soon be adding to the engine count

Thanks for your comments, what you say makes sense so I will have to delve a little deeper into my setup. My ECU has been done twice by AMG as they provide a guarantee - once for 93 octane and recently for 95 octane. The AMG software upgrade is more than likely not as aggressive as the 'Jerry' tune you folks get in the States, but it does the job. We don't have too many tuners in RSA who are willing to fettle with AMG's and the tuners that do good work tend to specialize in BMW and jap imports. All our aftermarket spares are directly imported from the States or Germany, but mainly AMG do all the work at a fair price. Incedently both my blown engines were 2002's and there are some thought provoking threads about them on this website so who knows?
