I paid $2197. $500 in labor and $1500 in parts. The rest was tax. They replaced a pin in the rear SAM, and both the sender and fuel pump assemblies. The bad pump was drawing excessive current from the SAM and started to melt the pin. Sounds like a smaller fuse might be a good idea, or thicker wiring.

Here are some screen shots from the WIS on how to replace the fuel pump (or fuel tank as the case may be), the WIS states that the pumps cannot be removed which would explain needing to replace the entire fuel tank.

Hope this helps someone avoid $500 in labor in the future

Well guys I took my car in to the second dealer that my buddy works at today. Will keep you up to date on how it goes and how much it comes to.

Well guys, I picked up the car a couple of days ago. Everything went smoothly, no issues where found in the Rear SAM. I think I got a great deal, since my buddy works at the dealer I took it to. The whole thing came to around $1700, which included the pump and sender, fuel filter, some relays. They also cleaned my injectors. And yes, they didn't have to change the tank. I have no idea why the other dealer and MB themselfs said that the tank needs to me changed at the same time.
Thanks everyone for all your help, I'm at 167,000+. I'm going to see how far I can take it .

Also wondering what your fuel-filter changing regime has been, and whether frequent changes (25K miles or so) could keep the fuel pump alive longer. Congrats on the 167K miles btw, have you replaced your supercharger bearings yet...?

I'm a little confused, the star service CD (for my 04 C32) says that the pump can't be replaced separately from the tank, which implies that you can't purchase the pump, at least not from MB. Any clarification on that from your dealer?

The second dealer was able to order the pump and sender separately and install them with no problems. The part numbers they used were Auxiliary Pump 203-470-34-94 and 203-470-17-41 for sender. Plus, other misc stuff (i.e. rings, washers). However, as you mentioned all the other resources I checked did say that the tank has to ordered at the same time . I hope the part numbers help in getting them separately.
Thanks for the complement on the mileage. The car has been very reliable and a great daily driver for me rain or shine. I do believe in driving my cars hard but not abusing them at the same time and has worked so far. I have had my Corrado for over 20yrs now and still drive it on daily basis once in a while. Just replaced it's supercharger last year after 20yrs!!
As far as the C32, I did have warranty until 100K and the service manager at my local dealer was very good at the time, which helps. They replaced everything and anything that needed to changed when ever I brought the car in for service. The Supercharger itself has been changed at around 80-90K. As far as the fuel filter it was only replaced at 100K. Maybe, I should have replaced it more often.
