Help with dealer description of throttle actuator, IC pump;good time for pullies?TIA
SubscribeOk little long- (also i apologize to the people who gave me some good info on the throttle actuator in a previous question of mine, but I needed to approach this from another angle)
Backround-I took the c32 to the track and ran 6 consistant 14.6s@~97mph. Even though this was with 19" bremmas wearing blizzack snows i was very disappointed. Took it to benz they fixed two leaking evap lines and an O2 sensor. Got Conti DW summers to replace the snows Back to the track expecting 13s: ran ten 14.8s in a row! (If I was bracket racing Id be champ) Pissed. Back to Benz.
So this is where I'm at. Benz found a bad throttle actuator and the "low pressure cooling pump" inoperable. So Im going to quote what the dealer wrote,
"14148. Road test:Felt sluggish w/ slow throttle response. Pulled codes: codes present for intake air temp too hot and throttle monitor Faulty. checked current draw was low for charge air cooling pump. check resistance-ol. needs pump. tested actual values for pedal position sensor-ok. Checked actual values for throttle actuator motor-ok. Checked actual values for throttle actuator -no response. internal resistance of throttle actuator-ol. needs throttle actuator"
$1800 P&L for the throttle actuator
$800 P&L for the charge air cooling pump.
This is way too expensive, so my questions are, after reading the dealers description, what is the throttle actuator exactly and what needs to be replaced? Some kind of harness or the whole TB or what? And what is involved in replacing it? ive heard removing the whole supercharger. Also I think the part is very expensive and I heard a company will rebuild them.
So I've been waiting to get the eurocharged pulley package. If I have to pull the SC anyway this would be the perfect time. Also I was going to get the "Johnson CM30 Intercooler Pump" with the pulley kit, is this the same as the "charge air cooling pump"? Then Id be able to fix the actuator, the IC pump, and have more power all at once!
Thanks to anyone who read all this and double thanks for any info.

Yes the cm30 is the air cooling pump, I'm assuming. I would change the intercooler pump my self. Get a eurocharged 181 pulley and tune and then have an indy shop repair your throttle actuator.

Damn thats more expensive then we charge. Yes a code for intake temp too high is the aux coolant pump so go the CM30 route. How many labor hours do they charge? Shouldnt be more than 2.5 to 2.7 hrs.

Mike, installing the IC pump is a cinch. The best time to do it would be when you install the larger heat exchanger. Those two things will help solving some of your heat soak issue.

What is the marginal hp increase of the Johnson pump vs the pump and added heat exchanger for non drag race, nominally highway and amateur infrequent road course driving?Originally Posted by 02C32guy

I don't think there is any horsepower gain. I just think there is less heatsoak and keeps the engine run cool. I could be wrong though

I had problems with my throttle body and had it rebuilt.

ExploreGramma Benz- afew people mentioned to me that you had TB problems. What exactly was wrong? Did you get a code for a bad actuator, like I did? Where did you have the TB rebuilt?
