Mercedes (W203) C240 4Matic
C240/320 conversion to C32 AMG
Hello guys. I hava a c240 4matic for 4 years now and it is my winter beater car. It is perfect for winter. I am very interested to to know if a c32 amg engine and transmission will fit my 4matic system. I found a c32 amg at a very good price but I just want to know if it is possible to use the engineto fit my 4matic gearbox. I really did not search much about this because I really need to know fast. I know that in my c240 I have the transfer box. Is the 240/320 4 matic gearbox diffrent from the normal 240/320 gerabox. It is possible to swap just the c32 amg engine to fit the c240/320 gearbox. I have also the possibility to fabricate custom parts for fitting but not bulid an entire new gearbox. I really want to bring this car to life again since I have some gearbox issues and it is a litlle beat up on the exterior but I want to make a nice project from this and see if this conversion is possible.

Not to pass judgement, but unless you have deep pockets, the patience of a monk, and an incalculable amount of time on your hands, I would forego this project and sell your aging c240, take the money from the sale and the money you were going to spend on a used C32 and put it towards a 2007 or 2008 Subaru WRX (AWD) if you are looking for power and AWD.

If you want decent German AWD power at a reasonable price, I would seriously consider a second hand Audi B6 or B7 S4 (the 1 or 2 generations prior to the current S4). They were direct competitors for the C32/C55 back in the day, yet offerred the benfit of Quattro AWD. Sure, it's not as quick as the C32/C55, but it would be a big leap in performance compared to a C240 4Matic.

NO and why? I guess if you have the patience and also know-how to do the TCU for the AWD which is probably not impossible BUT improbable, you'd be better off with the Audi mentioned above by PC!!
Better yet, if you want AWD and decent performance, find yourself an ML series truck, such as an ML 55 or an ML 500 or ML 550(even the ML 320 BlueTec will do) . The R 63 has it too!! They are quick, pretty reliable, AWD, BUT not so good on gas!!! An AMG ML will be 98 % of the cars out there today.

+1 !! At this point, I wouldn't touch a Saab with a 10 foot pole. We dont even know who owns them at this point. Its been going back and forth for months...........

+2 on B5 S4, good luck on finding an unmolested example though. With RS4 turbos and BPUs they can be really quick and run 11s. That 2.7tt platform is very capable or better yet, find an A6 with the same engine, manual transmission and larger space for even cheaper than S4s or your C240 4matic.

2005 C32 4Matic - That's Not A Typo! :D
How do you figure? LOL I actually quoted you only for the "No engine, no badge" statement... If I throw an AMG engine in a C240 4M, can I put AMG badges on it? Pretty please!
It's in process right now buddy. Slowly as other work has been pushing it back but hoping to have it done before the snow flies.
Thanks for the kind words. They're a labor of love and when you stand on it in these little street missiles, it's pure sex!!!
MateiMihaescu, I'd say go for it as I'm all about crazy sh*t like this but that's just me. I will say your money would be better spent on something already AWD but sometimes people just love the car their in and if that's the case and you have the money to support a large scale project like this, it'll be a heck of a fun car year round and you'll surprise the hell out of people when you leave the lights.

Anyways, all of the 2.8L turbo V6 SAAB motors which is actually a Holden motor and used in the Vauxall Vectra/Insignia VX-R's have coilpack failure problems. As far as I know, even though it's still a production motor, there hasn't been any fix yet. Avoid SAAB's at all costs! It's currently owned by some unknown British car company, no longer under Spyker. I got rid of mine about half a year ago. Still an amazing car. Probably the best FWD car I've ever driven.
