C63 507 AMG DA Car #19
Thx Newzchspy.
The 550i stock on paper is low 13 sec 1/4 mile, but I'm getting unconfirmed rpts of high 12's with good driver stock. So possibly mid 12's with dr's. Not that I would perform such tom-foolerly in this family sedan
I've got to say I was one of those punk kids...... it wasn't brand specific for me..... what-ever I got my hands on was usually driven like tires/gas was free from the age of 15 yrs old until (several or a "few") years ago dep on who you talk too
There was a time back in the late 80's where street racing was actually no-big deal where I came from..... it seems all the LEO's were throw-backs to the movie american grafitti.... and really did not hassel street racers...... every sat night was THE night out on Airline Highway in baton rouge. I had my regular competition.... it was like spy vs spy.... with my lim budget I would add a few small things here/there and be on top that week... then he would do the same....... my car a 69 fire bird 350........ my foe..... a 67 camaro from the good part of town...... we would stop on the interstate (in mexico)..... at midnight.... and hit it.... to trip digits. Those days are gone....... not sure if it was fast-n-furious that killed it for us.... or if the new gen younger kids could not drive well..... or if just the natural inc in population put that many more kids in the "street" staging lanes..... but man have things changed.
Now I say take it to the track..... knowning full well what we "used" to do

It all depends on the model.
E39 M5 vs CL600:
the Merc is an 'ol mans' car - but faster in a drag race...
E60 M5 vs any Merc (except Black):
BMW wins
F10 vs later Merc offerings:
I don't know (yet) but I'd suggest that if bends are involved the F10 will win...
However, if it came to what I'd 'like' or 'want' then it would have to be the Gullwing... (not the modern SLS crap one though).
Moral of the story?
In 'high end' standard production models BMW are so much better than Mercedes it can't even deserve an argument...

2005 c55 amg, 99 E36 m3, 2007 FX35
I dont think its so much that there is a fude between the two i do agree that a base 318 or 325 i cheaper then a base c class so it is a younger persons chance in getting their hand on a luxury car. I myself 23 grew up in a BMW family my father drove 7 series and still does to this day my mother drive 5 series and now an x5 i started out with hondas then went into a 3 series as soon as i could. Now a few years later after growing up a bit and working more was able to own a e36 and e46 m3 and love the cars to death i actually currently daily drive a 99 e36 m3. But its from my experience that BMW's are kinda a bang for your buck german luxury car, they can be inexpensive, fairly easy to maintain, and still have a "class" factory to them. Now after working these I wanted Classy car I bought a c55 AMG the reason being you see m3's everywhere but not a c55 BMW dosent really have a "rare" car but mercedes does. I think grown up individuals who are real car nuts understand and respect mercedes alot more it might not be a track car like a m3 can be but it makes up for it with raw power and pure comfort. (if no one noticed I daily drive my m3 but weekend only my c55 haha)

Lets see what Mercedes/AMG offers..... McLaren SLR, SLS AMG, SL65 Black series, CLK63 black series, CLS63.....Shall I continue?
E60 M5 wins vs any Merc????
Ya go tell that to the E55 guys doing over 580-600 RWHP and over 600+ftlbs torque.
I'm not even gonna bring the 65 engines or 5.5 V8 Bitrubo into this.
Troll on......

I did not mean modified cars. Standard production cars from BMW or Mercedes.
Don't get me wrong - I love Mercs but they generally do not handle as well as BMWs.
I do own and drive a 190 2.3-16 and that handles very well for it's era. E55s or CL65/63s do not handle very well on poor roads. For drag racing they would be excellent, without doubt.
Kind Regards,
Eddie.

Depends where I'm going.
It's not just BMW drivers. I had a 2009 E350 with the sport package and trunk lip spoiler so it basically looked like an E63. One day I walk out to my car from Home Depot.. at the same time another guy walks over to his E63 same color but 1 aisle over so no way he missed my car, I got confused myself when I saw both cars. He pulled out of his space and peeled out of the parking lot, clearly an attempt to belittle my E350.... as if I care. What a douchebag! Point of my story... it's not the BMW, it's the person behind the wheel.

No need to bash either one.
Having been in MB's for the past 5 years and 4 diff cars..... c230, ML500, C63, and heavily modified clk55-K...... I'm really digging our new 550i-6spd. BMW has something special going on in the look, fit, finish, feel. Perhaps I'd feel the same way about an e or s class as most of my MB experience has been in the c class and m class.

hahah thats too funny, when i started this post it wasnt just against bmw's i guess i shoulda been more broad to that type of guy were all talking about. but at the time it was these bimmer kids so thats was my launching point. i think the biggest thing is the maturity level here. i mean if i saw a SLS AMG next to me pull up or something i would compliment the guy on his ride and what not.... not peel out in my car trying to prove something. then again my proximity to NYC the jersey shore guido retardation soaks its way up..... my heritage is italian so i can say guido just to avoid a flame war on that haha

My second car after the 69 Beetle with a 2188 cc with dual Weber side drafts was a 69 Trans Am. Sold it about 21 years ago, much to my regret and chagrin. I had a Ram Air III and I miss that car. Sucked in rain and inclement weather, BUT back it 1969 it was all the rage!!

06' BMW M3
...I'd say for the most part you guys are right...but I think you have to take into consideration that many older bmw's are more cheaply available for the"kids"....I'll tell though I daily drive my 06' e46 M3...and every damn day somebody wants to give it a go... and it's all kinds of cars and just not kids...from Pcars to POS...you name it...some cars, like my M3 just have bad reputations(you know parents bought the kid an M..kid drives like an Ahole)...I'm older,so for the most part I let it slide...but every once awhile....well only I'm human...like others have said...just be the bigger person

Sorry to bring this old thread up
Today, I got a MB fella too. This guy in a black CLS55 just cut right in front of me and 10 sec later he cut all three lanes to the slower lane and then cut all the way out all three lane again to the fast lane to cut in 3 cars in front of me

2005 C55 AMG, 2010 VW GTI (Stage 1)
the e60 M5 is powerful and fast, but I have 3 family/friends with them, and that V10 engine is just problematic, specifically the SMG transmission. Can't say the same since I lack experience with the MB 7speed auto, but thought it was worth mentioning.
Secondly, I appreciate the "rarity" of AMGs, as I've seen maybe 6-7 other C55s in almost 5 years, whereas e36 M3's are a dime a dozen, at least in the DC/MD area... and rareness is a quality a lot of us enthusiasts can appreciate, in addition to the drive/feel
Also, my buddy owns a C63 and the new M3, and his synopsis was this: M3 is a great handler, perfect for the track; for every day driving, blasting down a road and pure thrill he prefers the C63 hands down. Just some food for thought...
