Systems on C32

Hi. I am thinking about getting a system in my C32. Can people who got systems installed give me some info on what options i have? i'm thinking of getting two subs in the trunk and an amp. please tell me what kind of systems you guys got in your cars, how much you paid for it, and how and where you got it installed.

thanks

I think you need to tell us how much are you going to spend? What are you hoping to "achieve" in the end? A system that sounds good to me may not sound good to you.

And most importantly, a system could range from $2,000-20,000+.

you already have a sub in the back. you may choose to just upgrade that and also add a separate amp for that. If you don't mind loosing some of the trunk space and also adding weight to the car then a box + amp may be the better option for you.
I'm thinking about adding some needed bass to my stock sys too. But i dont want a big box in the back so im going to use a "freeair woofer/radiator" and an additional amp... something in the 50-100 watt range. With a free-air sub a box is not necessary.
I'm not sure if a cooling sys would be required.

C32 Brabus,

How are you gonna get a free air amp installed? Do you mean to replace the subs that are already there? what size are the amps in the car anyway? and why such a low power amp?

How is the sound different in a box and a free air sub?

Use Diamond Audio Hex for your meds and highs. Use dual 10" Eclipse Aluminum PRO subs for your lows. Use one Macintosh 5 channel amp to power all speakers, and get the best Pioneer (Most Pioneer units sound better than Alpine and Kenwood) head unit with DVD player and monitor. This should sound pretty awesome and super clear.

I kept my factory COMAND but put in a good system that I'm happy with. It's not quite as clean as it would be with a different head unit but it's still incredibly good. I'm using a Diamond D7104 for the highs with Focal Utopia 165W in front and Mistral 165KX in back. The subs are taken care of with two Kicker 600.1D amps strapped together feeding two Adire Audio Brahama 10" subs at 8 ohms (I find higher ohm loads to sound cleaner while leaving the amp with more headroom to handle peaks). The EQing is taken care of by two Phoenix Gold TiDEQ digital EQs (one for the highs, one for the subs although I want to change this and run one EQ for the fronts and one for the rears with the sub unequalized). The end result is a system that's as accruate and musical as possible given the stock head unit, with enough grunt to blast when I'm in the mood. Those of you looking for new subs, forget Eclipse and everything else. The Adire's are INCREDIBLE performers and are only $300/sub. They're an awesome value compared to an Eclipse Titanium sub or something like that. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it. It's going to hurt tearing the system apart but I'm not ABOUT to sell it with the car if I'm not going to get anything more for it.

I'm getting my setup installed next Saturday...Originally I was going to use the factory head unit...but decided to throw my Alpine 7898 in along with an Alpine video screen above it. I'm mounting a 6-disc DVD/CD changer in the glove box. I'm using a JL audio 300.4 to run MQ Quart separates up front and coaxials in back. I'm using a 500.1 to drive a 12w6 in the trunk. I may step up the sub combo to a 12/7 and a 1000.1 if I don't get enough out of the current combo. I plan on getting the shop to interface the head unit with the steering wheel controls. I'll throw up some pics when I'm done...

CHROMED OUT: yes i meant replace your existing sub but add an additional amp to power that sub. The amp is the same for free air or enclosed speakers and there shouldn't be too much sound difference between the two types of woofers.
as far as wattage goes 100 watts should be enough unless you want the whole block to listen to your music.
The Macintosh amp like AV2 mentioned is an awsome amp if can afford it.
let us know how you're upgrade goes if you get it...

Hmm...

Maybe I am getting old but the act of throwing a couple 12" subs and an amp in the trunk just doesn't appeal to me. The combination of weight, loss of trunk space and the looks just turns me away. I guess is you are looking for a ton of bass and something that really hits hard this is a way to do it. If it were me I would just swap out the speakers for something like MB Quart etc. and use the stock head unit, this will definetly make a difference in sound. If you are looking for more bass companys such as JL Audio make nice 10" subs that are a good size and can be mounted to the side of your trunk and you will hardly loose any room. Ofcourse you will need some power for that sub, but anything can be done the way you want with some money! I would say with 2,000 bucks you could change out speakers add a 10" sub and amp with a nice clean install, thats the route I would go.

Cheers.

For those that would want to safe trunk space, use that spare tire area to house a single 10" sub. You can hear and feel it, but you won't be able to see it.

I guess I grew out of the system in the whole trunk thing.

Only thing i have is a 12" W6 (jl) with the smallest ppi amp powering it ..i had it in my tahoe which sounded like i had 2 12's back there because it was an open cabin. now it's in the c32 w/simple box and amp installed up under the rear deck so you can't see it much. nothing rattles yet and it sounds clean (mostly depends on the song) some songs use such ****ty ghetto bass it sounds like it's ripping your speakers but nelly and lil jon - get lo.mp3 etc. sound VERY LOUD and CLEAN. and it's easy to unplug the box if i need more room.
