the BMW's M Gmbh have had the advantage to have 6-speed manual, and for that have been able to cach up with AMG parformance (no talking about handling {chasis}, just engine outcome)

you are right, not only tq/(lb) or hp/(lb) also $/(hp) and $/(tq) are a factors too. The E and 5 series have a premium $, and that $ may be use to get more hp or tq or decrease lb to get better outcome in some cases
