The retaining clip is in the front. I have just taken it off again. I can't get the bearing off with tapping from the back with a hammer. I don't think it is the clutch as I am able to tap the bearing forward from hitting it from the rear of the pulley with a hammer and block of wood enough that the gap is down to .2mm, but once I drive 15 minutes, the gap widens. That tells me the bearing is moving inside the pulley. Maybe only a mm, but it is enough to prevent clutch from engaging. I am so frustrated I am ready to call a tow truck...This shouldn't be this difficult. They should sell the freaking pulley without having to buy the whole SC.

Just get a Eurocharged pulley, one of the least invasive mods you can do and you can run it without a tune or any other supporting mods too! PLus you will love the extra power.

This is probably one of the most informational threads about it:

You do not have to buy SC assey. The clutch is sold separately bu it is expensive.
I cannot recall if there was a spacer behind the bearing but there should not be any play in bearing seat when snap ring is engaged.
2 options here.
*Wrong bearing used
*washer/spacer was not installed if existed at all.
Do no rush to buy a new/used clutch. Try to find some sort of washer to eliminate the gap.

I took the old bearing out of its box to show a friend and the spacer washer fell out of the box. The guy at the machine shop thought it was a fragment of the old bearing. I had him replace the bearing, putting the washer in first. Now it works fine. Problem solved...

Glad you got it sorted, I guess you now have a spare 1-2 IC pumps which can't be a bad thing.

Just giving my two cents. I too had the almost exact same problem, low power and ESP light coming on. Turned out that my problem had nothing to do with the engine. My bad seat modules were blown the #54 (not a 100% sure if its the right one) fuse in the front SAM and cut off the S\C. I ended up spending over a grand trying to figure out what the problem was. I also had the car scanned and it was pulling up about 11 false codes! check out the fuses on your front SAM see if one is blown. I'll double check which one it is that was blowing out on me if you like. I've learned that problems on these cars are usually pretty simple lol (learned the hard way though)
