Saaboteur's C55

There are piles and piles of grilles available on eBay. The trick is to find the 'gapless' one, and you'll have more luck searching for W209 CLK as opposed to a C55. The gapless vs. gap debate is documented elsewhere - search for a thread with 'black on black' or something like that where it's discussed. I think also username greatFNR (if I remember right) has some good comments on it. You need to watch out which grille to buy otherwise you will have an slightly ugly looking gap at the top.
To avoid all that, and because a deal came up from a user selling his grille which I could not pass up, I went with OE parts. Fits perfect, and the seller even threw in the CLK grille support and hood latch which are required for the mod. Keep in mind I believe there are three and four fin CLK grilles; I prefer the three fin, looks a bit cleaner.
Funnily enough, I was also asked by a UK member if I wanted to trade my C55 grille for his CLK grille. Figures that people always want a piece that wasn't available initially from the factory for their cars... So I think I will keep my C55 grille indefinitely because when one thinks about it, it's probably more rare than a CLK grille.

Unrelated, but this was delivered to my house yesterday:
You can see the AA battery for comparison, this thing is huge! Filled with lovely images of the latest AMGs. Best of all was the price - free! Benefits of being an AMG Private Lounge member and entering their contests.

Got another piece of Mercedes AMG swag in the mail yesterday - got it from one of the Private Lounge contests. It's a Mercedes AMG Formula One mousepad. I thought it would be some cheapo flexible foam regular type mousepad - but was very pleasantly surprised to find it packed in a lovely little box, and it's all aluminum!
But fail - my mouse doesn't work very well on it. Fortunately, I think they've thought of that - there is provision on the back to mount it on the wall, so that's where it's going to go!

They certainly 'give back' nicely to enthusiasts, don't they?!? And I didn't even buy my cars new. All free too, no shipping cost or anything to me. The NHL could do well to follow Mercedes' example!

How do you like the mouse pad? Yes it is pretty awesome, but my wireless laser mouse makes a terrible sound when rubbing on it, makes me want to go back to the rubber one I had before

My laser mouse at the office barely works on it, so I'm not going to use it. I'm afraid of the wear and tear anyway (regardless of what they say about the 10 year warranty). I'm just going to hang it on the way and admire it instead. Too nice to be constantly sliding something on it.

Hi Saab,
I just found and subscribed to this thread. Great looking 55 you've got after reading the first page. I will look through the other pages when I have some more time.... Keep cool man

Just put the car back on the road after hibernating since November. So nice to back into it after driving my beater Audi the whole winter. Smiles all around!

Picked up a bunch of parts for install in the next few weeks: front rotors, pads, sensor, wires and plugs. At the same time, had to grab some front rotors for my brother-in-law's 96 Civic. Comparo shot of the front rotor sizes made me LOL:

Forgot to mention - last fall I noticed one of the licence plate LEDs was inoperative intermittently. I had actually bought a complete licence plate LED bit for my Audi, so I looked for the same thing for the C55 - that way, no worries about the bulb flickering, the whole replacement unit is a bit of a tidier solution. Bit of a pain to remove the old ones, but worth it. I used the recommendations and dorections in this thread:

Mmmm..free tire changes, have to keep that in mind!
On another note, I picked up a second hand OE accessory roof rack. Even came with adjusting tool (ball ended allen socket driver, very handy) and the instruction manual too. Mounted it up tonight just for fitment sake. Planning to take a short road trip next month and will use the rack with our Yakima Skybox. Will be much easier to mount the Yakima on the C55 as opposed to onto the LR3!

Yeah man, that's not a bad idea. I've recently been in touch with a couple other local Benz guys, so we should figure something out.
