Question about deleting C55 secondary cats
Are there o2 sensors on the c55s secondary cats? I want to delete them, but I'm not sure if it will give me a CEL ony dash or not. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Obviously it's a subjective thing, but I don't think it's bad at all. I'm sure most here would agree. This is a dyno vid before I did the headers and dual exhaust (res delete and secondaries replaced w/ x pipe).
Here's a vid from Hooleyboy of startup and rev.
The stock note is VERY muted IMO. AMG did much better with the 63's!
Even with headers and no cats it isn't bad if you are easy on the throttle (it does sound like a truck while it's in open loop during warmup though!).
Can't say for sure, but I do seem to recall folks in Cali passing the visual. I'm sure others will chime in.

thanks for the vids! Sounds really good although I fear the Cali sniffers as secondary cats undoubtedly have some emission purpose. I'll probably start with the resonator removal and move to the cats after the next smog. Thanks again!

And I also think you can pass the sniffer test without the second cats.

The secondary cats are not monitored so you'll have no problem removing them. I removed my secondaries and resonator and the sound is great. It isn't super loud (it won't overpower the radio when the windows are up) and there is zero drone at highways speeds. I actually want it louder, so longer headers and high-flows are in my future.

I thought I saw a topic on this site where the 2ndary cats are NOT cats, but just a bulge with a perforated pipe inside for sound reduction. Can anyone confirm?

Can't speak for the 55 but my 32 has no secondary cats or resonator and I passed smog here in SoCal. Most newer cars have no issues with smog without the secondaries.

If I remember correctly, the guy that did mine did both secondaries and resonator. For the secondaries I believe it was 2-3/4" diameter pipe (check this with a caliper to be sure), and the resonator was 3" pipe. The shortest piece he could order was plenty to do the job twice (I think maybe 3-4' long piece). If you say 1' for each cat so 2' total you will be good.

Just took another couple of exhaust clips before/after a car wash:
Good idea of what a cold/hot start sound like as well as some revs...

They no longer plug the sniffer into your exhaust. Everything is done through the OBDII reader and nothing triggered any red flags

For those who are reading this thread, I just wanted to note that I just passed the California STAR smog test with the resonator and secondary cat delete on my C55.

I did my secondary cats and resonator delete at the same time there is no drone and it's not to loud but I just did a muffler delete and huge difference it's way loud and there is a little drone.

If you find a shop that will do it PM me. I want to remove the secondaries on my E63 but don't have a smog guy that will look the other way any more (he lost his smog license).
