Help -- Stripped valve cover threads
Hi,
I don't know how it happened, but I managed to strip the threads on the valve cover used to hold the bolt securing only one ignition coil to the cover (passenger side, closest to the fire wall). Didn't overtighten or anything -- only removed the coils to change the ignition wires and to remove the rust from the underside of the ignition coils.
Since a new valve cover costs about $400, does anyone know off hand exactly which helicoil kit I need to purchase to fix this issue?
Any help would be appreciated. Splinter?

Helicoil should work if you can reach it with the drill and tap.

Just measure the diameter of the bolt and the threads per mm which will tell you what helicoil you need. I have no idea, I have not taken them off my own car but it is probably a M8x1.25 or something like that.

I would recommend removing the cover to tap as in place good quality work is more dificult than it appears. Having said that you can do in place (I dont know how difficult your layout is), dont rush it. Also if theres sufficent material you can just tap to the next larger size bolt and use that. Thats essentially the first step when installing a insert.
