I really want a llimited slip...

Hey guys,

Even though I don't have my car with me in North Carolina, I really want to get a limited slip so I can have fun with the car when I'm back in California.

So I've looked around and found the limited slip online for $1250 shipped. I called a local shop for install and they said $600! That's shy of 2 grand...

Does anyone know where I can either get the diff cheaper or for a better install price in the Bay Area?

Thanks in Advance!

Check out a Phantom Grip, I know Waldig ran one for quite a while on his SRT-6 with good results till he upgraded to a Wavetrac.

Regardless of which LSD model you go with, LSD was one of the most fun mods I have done.

Gramma Benz: I can't find anything about the diff on their website for some reason.

Lenin: Can you explain to me how and why it makes the car that much better than before? Everyone seems to say it transforms the car, but how?

How Does the Phantom Grip Work?

Phantom Grip's precision cut disc plates function as a disc-type limited slip in cornering and braking. Disc plates exert equal load against spider gears using spring pressure to control the amount of slippage at the wheels. Helping to accelerate quicker, while sustaining higher speeds through corners.

Phantom Grip offers 100% locking in hard acceleration. When torque is applied through acceleration the disc plates pivot, locking the spider gears, causing both wheels to exert equal power to the road, providing less torque steer than an ordinary differential. Although seemingly simple, the 'Phantom Grip design' offers as much maximum traction as other limited slips.

Me too. I was at the lights the other day. The person next to me was your average middle age commuter in a 15 year old piece of crap slowly driving to work. They beat me across the 100% dry intersection. I was sitting there shredding one tyre (potenza adrenalines) only while traction control ruined everything. From what I understand, the LSD will stop or reduce this in most situations.

Both wheels will be forced to spin so there is less chance that traction control will be needed. If you do spin both then you have a better chance of still going forwards and traction control hopefully wont need to kill all your power.

Are you mechanically minded? The job looks really annoying but not overly difficult. Someone made an excellent set of instructions on here.

Michael, first off thanks for the help. I called Vlad's shop yesterday and spoke to someone one else. They want $1299 for the diff and another $650 for installation. This is the shop I was talking about.

Gramma Benz, this actually looks promising and fairly cheap. Is a phantom grip diff any good though? Edit: I've just read some not so good things about it.

The way the phantom works, it would seem that it could wear out which the quaife will not. For less than half the price of the quaife, something has to give....

Yeah, from what I've read, it puts a lot of stress on the trans. I think if I decide to get a diff, I'll definitely gt a quaife.

I think it is worth it in the long run. Also this from their website.
"Does the Phantom Grip LSD Conversion Kit Come With A Warranty?
The Phantom Grip is extremely strong and durable and comes with a Lifetime Warranty against manufacturer defects which is a product replacement."

This suggests if you break it or it wears out they don't want to know. I seem to remember hearing quaife will give you a new one if you break it and actually want the old one back to see how it failed.

Yeah, I've heard the quaife is super strong. I think it's the best choice for sure.

From what I recall, the SLK32 and C32 pumpkins are different, so no go for the phantom and wavetrac on the C32 that I know of.

Currently have a Quaife lined up for mine

The benefits have been listed above. There are LSDs that work differently but all have the same benefits. A word of advise. Concidering the install costs and the number of people using Quaife on W203s, go with Quaife.

$1350 shipped from some little shop on the east coast. $1250 shipped is a good deal, the majority of places charge $1500 for the diff alone.

Without a doubt, the Quaife is the best, but you're gonna have to spend some $$ on it. Phantom grip is a lower cost option, one that I read worked pretty decently for someone in an SRT-6.

I also want a real LSD, but would prefer a quaife and cannot afford it, LOL

+1 I had a good look through the opinions a while back. Kleemann (an expensive phantom grip),Renntech lsd or Quaife seemed to be the only opinions. The Quaife being the most reputable.

I know this is a long shot... But would anyone want to get a group buy going? Maybe 5 guys or so?

I spoke to ASP Performance in Daly City, Ca and they said that they are open to group buys and would provide a 10% discount of the actual diff and a huge discount on the install.

Is that shipped (internationally) price? I cant seem to pinpoint there website to contact them further for shipping(alot of ASP's comming up)
Can you PM the web addy please or post it here if that isnt against the rules. If shipping cost is good I think I may jump on this list.

Here is their website. http://aspperformance.com/

If you want to call them, I think that would be the best way to contact them.

Just tell them your part of a possible group buy for a C32 Quaife diff and they will know what your talking about.

I called them just a few days ago to discuss.

Let me know what they say and if you want to be the first other member to join the list I'll be in charge of the group buy if it takes place so feel free to contact me if you need me to call them.
