Cylinder misfires at track yesterday!
#26
SO I finally got around to switching the coil packs earlier today. Switched 2 to 1 and 6 to 5. Had to pull out the wires and to make sure they all went in the right place...probably should have changes 2 for 5 and 6 for 3 but whatever.
Anyways Car was running super smooth as usual at low speed/rpm. After two or three errands, I turn on the car and get a rough idle w/ the engine sounding like it's going to stall. Throttle was really delayed and it probably looked like It was my first time driving stick shift. So I Stop quickly and turn off and restart the car. Normal start and drive.
I think I'm pretty confident that the coil packs are what is causing those misfires. I was going to try and get the misfire to reoccur, but I'm worried now that I'll get stuck out in the middle of nowhere! BTW no CEL came on during all this surprisingly.

Should I stick with Bosch packs? They are damn expensive! There seem to be a lot of no name brands that sell them cheap. Anyone have any experience? I have bosch oem wires, and NKG laser iridiums plugs.
I'm also a little worried it might be the connector wires.

Well, just got done with putting the new intercooler in and all was well. Then, it happened again tonight, same exact sequence - WOT top of 3rd and a misfire. I have the magnecor 8.5mm spark cables, and the ngk iridium spark plugs liked fine when we had them out.
Coil packs, bad connection, or lack of fuel??

Those magnecore wires are known for popping out easily. Check and make sure they are all pushed in tightly. I like the OEM bosh wires myself for this reason.

Don't know, it's really weird. Going WOT in first or second gear doesn't make it misfire. It runs smooth as silk. I'm going to drive mine easy for a while and see if it reappears.
Does eurocharged have the data logging function available for the C32 yet? I think that would be the next step.

It still could be a weak ignition for the same reason above.

I'm running the 185mm pulley. Don't know what the plugs are gapped at, but I'm running the ngk iridium one step colder. Plugs appeared to be on par when I had them out.
What bugs me is that it only started doing this in April of this year, and I've been running the current setup for much, much longer than that.
What is the ideal spark plug gap?

What color are the plugs? If they are almost black in color, then the plugs are not cleaning them selves. And becouse they are too cold.
And cap is too much on standart for high boost, you must cap them less. If I remember correctly, i use 0.7~0.8mm. And was having problems also in ngk iridiums(one step colder) so now im running fine with stock plugs. (i have red magnecors also)
And when my cats go broken, misfire problems was wery bad.

I do know that when I was running .043 before, I was having misfires. I heard that when you're running high boost like on a 185 pulley, it's pushing so much boost it can actually blow out the spark, thus a smaller gap requirement.
However, this just what I've heard and what is working for me.
Another possible cause for missfires is a bad camshaft, which is what I just had trouble with. Since the cam lobes on the older C32's are just pressed on, they can possibly shift over time. I didn't get missfires, but it's a possibility as the exhaust wasn't fully able to escape before the intake stroke began. I ended up with a blown headgasket.

Changing the spark plugs at the next oil change interval.
Meanwhile, I had another misfire sequence this past tuesday, 4 5 and 6 misfired all when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It was about 55 degrees F out in the morning. CEL flashed and then stayed on, but it didn't chug down to a stop requiring a restart.
Got a new tune via Euroflash by Eurocharged, haven't seen the problem so far. If it happens again, I'll update you guys. The euroflash can also read the CEL codes which is how I know it was 4 5 and 6 which misfired - and it cleared the CEL, pretty good!

I had a similar problem; the engine misfired on cyl 2 and 3. It turned out that my intercooler was leaking, so i replaced it with a new one. However, even after replacing the intercooler cyl 2 kept on misfiring at WOT around 5000 rpm. All the other cylinders were running OK. Yesterday I removed replaced the fuel filter and looked into the cats. It appeared that the cat was broken (pieces fell out), so we emptied the cat. After this the misfires were gone and the engine felt a lot stronger.
I think the leaking coolant & misfires have taken its toll on the cats.
So if your CEL comes back I would suggest to check the cats..

Same here. The interesting part is that there is no misfire on cyl#3. Check the injector wires on all cylinders and make sure there are seated right.
