C55 slight ping, "B" due soon. Service now?

I have a 2005 C55 with 78k miles. Love it. Bought from one-owner private seller in February with ALL service history in hand and 74k miles. Clean, strong car. I noticed a while back that I'd get a very slight ping under part-throttle (1/4 - 1/2) shift in sport mode. By slight, I mean less than .5 sec. Fuel Eco seems good and I have descent power. I run strictly Shell 91 premium, best I can get here in AZ, and have run one tank with Techron as my Indy advised. Still have it.

I've read about carbon buildup on valves and TB and wonder if that could be my issue? I have 3,800 miles to go before a service B. I'm wondering if I should just get it done now AND do plugs while at it to see if this helps. The B needs to get done In the next 3 months anyway but I'm wonder if changing 100k plugs now is too "early"? I'm thinking a little pre-emptive strike wouldn't hurt. Thoughts?

Update. Did the B service and Indy looked in cylinders with a boroscope. He found some carbon deposits so probably enough to raise compression and cause ping an subsequent timing retard. Advised me to add two bottles of techron to 1/4 tank of gas and get the revs up in the 4-5k range to help burn some off. Did this on the way home using manual mode. Hope this helps. Plugs will get replaced in a few more months. Need two new front Pilot Sports!

If you're getting audible ping, there's probably a lot more detonation going on that you can't hear. Hard to believe that a little carbon buildup would be enough to sufficiently raise compression to cause pinging.
Check your plugs.

Thanks,

I agree on plugs. I think it's time for a change.

No,, check your plugs for 'ping'.
Plugs very rarely cause pings if they are the correct ones.
But, you can locate ping when analyzing them.

There is a guide somewhere on the web how to recognize it.
Google it.
