Question Smoking C55

Hello fellow AMG'rs I'm new to the site and I'm hoping to find some answers to some issues I'm having. First one started a while back when wasting a somewhat frisky 370z,when finished waxing his *** I noticed a vibration when idling, the second issue came months later and might be kind of hard to explain but here goes. I will start my car move it from the garage and park it outside wait about say twenty to thirty mins start it again to move back and I notice white smoke coming from the drivers side exhaust. It does not do this if started and drivin to the store say then started again. 2006 C55 70k
Any suggestions?

if you were really hard on it you might have burned a valve. These engines are pretty tough, but that white smoke sounds like leaky valve guides if you get it a bit on each cold startup. Only drivers side? Do you have true dual exhaust on the car and/or a tune?

white smoke is coolant. grey smoke is oil (probably what you're seeing) and black smoke is fuel. You're probably getting a little seepage from the valve guides into the combustion chamber when the car's off and it burns off when you start it. If it runs OK don't be too concerned but if you're really worried find someone to do a compression/leak down test.

I've always felt that this v8 is wound pretty tight for rather basic valvetrain layout (by todays standards). Its even more noticable with a tune- last time I went WOT, the 2 to 3 shift seemed to barely drop to revs from redline. Feels strong but it sounds crazy enough for me to let the car breathe between the lights.

Thanks for the quick replies,it is more gray sorry about that,it never smokes on cold starts I thought the same thing(valve guides or seals)only when I start it the second time but doesn't reach operating temp it has to sit for say 15 or 20 mins, tru dual. I don't think the idle prob is related. I can do the leak down test I feel I'm pretty handy with that kind of stuff.

Cool - post up what you find with the leak down test. Good luck

Oil pools in the valves on quick starts or if you do extended high g corners, you'll notice oil burn. Mine has been doing it since I owned it and it only has 50K on it.

That's great news! Now I can concentrate on the idling issue thanks for the heads up!

Vibration at idle is most likely motor mounts.

+1, mine got noticeably worse after I flogged the car too. Have to get those changed on these cars every 40-70k.
If the motor mounts and tranny mount are already done look into cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body plate:

If your steering wheel isn't shaking in park, but shakes in D when sitting at a stop, check the transmission mount first before replacing the motor mounts.

Cool I will try that I was thinking this could be the issue reading some earlier threads,I did clean my MAP sensor and throttle body with no change. Is it a lot of trouble In changing any of these mounts? If I was to change these mounts who's a good supplier to purchase from?

this is for the DIY

I paid to have it done and it was $650 for parts and labor (use Lemforder, or equivalent-just don't cheap out on the mounts)

It'd probably be a good idea to change the engine and transmission mounts. My car had the transmission mount replaced before I bought it and I had to have the engine mounts replaced shortly after I bought it. And my car still has less miles than his.
