eclectic assortment of cars
I don't find it too intrusive at all. There is a slight drone at highway speeds, but honestly it's not too noticeable. The first thing I did when I got my car was drive it back home on the highway from another city, ~300km. And then as I mentioned, we did a roadtrip in the car back in June, no issues either. My wife would have mentioned it. Really though, it's just a more pleasant tone when you're on it, and a slight reminder when you're not, that you are driving a car with a lovely V8.

+1 to remove it .... Some videos of my friend CLK55 2005 , secondary & primaries deleted .... that's how the sound will be if u remove the 4 cats... This will help to have a little idea if u will keep ur primaries...

You went about it ***-backwards!

I'm thinking you should just take them out and go for broke!! What do you have for mufflers?
I bet it sounds great

Wonder how loud that would be? LOL
One of my friends did the same ( delete res ) so the sound of his C55 went better , then I convinced him on removing the secondary and keep the primaries and the sound was AMAZING !!!

One thing not mentioned in this thread is that while you can pass most emissions with the secondaries deleted, you may very well fail anyways if the inspector conducts a visual inspection. At least that is the case in Virginia.

You can't fail a visual for removing secondaries as long as the primaries are still in place.

I told the smog guy I deleted my cats and he was confused as the front was intact and the job was clean the car still passed as well in CA. He said the cats are still there and said it was fine. I also deleted the resonator first and it wasn't a big difference, but once I removed the rear cats it was perfect.

Had my res delete and secondary cats done yesterday. Sounds very nice and not too loud at all. That's coming from an old guy. LOL

That's not at all what I have read to be the experience of other members, but then again I can't personally attest to that since my secondaries aren't removed. Are you speaking from experience? Before writing this point off it should be considered for anyone in a state that requires emissions.

In addition to the better sound (subjective), there are some before and after dynos that demonstrate HP and TQ benefits for the C55:

Been reading all the posts on secondary cat delete's and it sounds (no pun intended) like that is the way to go. I'm leaning towards that with my 2003 C32 because my left secondary cat is bad and have to replace it either with MB OEM is $$$$ or can go the route of cutting out the bad secondary cat and replace with a Magnaflow or similar but I'm concerned about exhaust flow if I have 2 different secondary cats (??) so the cat delete seems like a better choice.

Does removing the secondary cat's create any possible issues with engine damage over the long term with cars over 100k miles?

Is there any strange odors (fuel / exhaust) that you'll get in the car after removing the secondary cats?

i've read about every cat related post but couldnt find answers to those two questions.

To answer your questions, no and no. Removing the cats won't cause any issues as far as functionality of the car. Their sole purpose is to supposedly make the exhaust emissions better for the environment, where one of the consequences is restricting your airflow, which is why many people remove them to restore the airflow and experience a small boost in power. If you have to pass emissions where you live, then I would recommend against removal. Emissions inspection would be the only issue you would run into with removing them.

I'll be removing the secondaries and res on my C55 in a couple of weeks

Tri-Valley Muffler in Dublin did my resonator (and maybe my secondaries). For a top notch job or a complete system, I would go to Minute Muffler on Dublin Blvd. but he won't touch cats for anything.
