a car that can't do the throttle reset.
anyone regret removing the secondary cats?
thinking about having mine hollowed out. Res. delete is nice, but a very very subtle change. Would like some more burble and start up boom. I fear it sounding civic'ish.

When a 5.4 AMG V8 sounds civic'ish with removed cats, that's the day I move on from AMG. Delete the secondary cats... You wont regret anything. No CEL lights, no drawbacks, just a better sound.

I mean the last thing you'd want to do is devote a lot of time an energy to something and then realize that you don't really want it.

Pointman may be committed to sticking with the car for a decade and then claim that the engine died on it.

Lucky!!! I have family in Plainfield, IN, they rub the easy/non-existent emissions rules in all the time. If I lived there I would have headers in a second!!

I'm taking mine in Friday morning to have the res delete. After reading this,I may have the secondary cats taking off as well. My muffler guy said something about putting cherry bombs on it. Wtf
Wonder how loud that would be? LOL

you will pass smog without 2nd cats. I did and I live outside LA. The primaries do just fine for smog tests.

I haven't done this to my C55 yet, but I knew someone who did and I heard it from outside as well as drove the car. Removal of resonator and secondary cats and it sounded PERFECT. Had a nice loud rumble, but also sounded very nice and wasn't obnoxious at all. I'm going to have my secondary cats and res removed sometime next month
There is a small amount of cabin drone, but if you want to do anything that is worth it to your exhaust, you're going to have to accept that. However, I personally like the sound because it's not really too loud and annoying and it makes your car sound good.
I don't have to worry about emissions where my car is registered in VA (not req'd) so can't shed any light on that part.

Who can comment on the experience going from simple deleted resonator/secondaries stock Y pipe to a true duals with x-pipe? Is it worth it?

When you say "true duals" don't you mean without an x-pipe and just a single separate pipe from each header back to each muffler and they never connect into one? I thought that's what "true dual" was...maybe I'm just being stupid

Just to denote from stock dual exhaust outlet- I would consider anything replacing the stock Y pipe section with two individual pipes true duals. I never thought of an x-pipe for exhaust bank harmony (and greater performance) as cancelling out the dual exhaust, but technically I suppose they are no longer fully independent.

I've wondered if anybody has left the resonator and the secondary cats in and removed the mufflers and gone with straight pipes?
Probably would equate to too much drone but i've been thinking about doing it. I'll probably end up just doing the resonator and secondary cat deletes.

Just because there's an X pipe in there doesnt take away from it being a true dual exhaust. Most high performance cars with dual exhaust have X pipes for the very reason you specified.

Back in June, we went on a 1000km+ road trip (documented here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...road-trip.html) and neither my wife, nor our then 1 year old baby girl complained at all.
On another 55 car, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Mind you, we don't test emissions here, so that's not really a concern for me. If I was concerned about the environment, I wouldn't have two V8s in the garage....

I'm having it done tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be disappointed. I've always had exhausts on pretty much everything I've owned but getting to the age now where I don't want it to be too loud...LOL
Saaboteur,
Is the noise very loud just cruising around town & on the highway? I put most of my miles back and forth to work. 15 miles round trip. But do go on alot of Dragon Tail runs, long weekends, ect.

Ive been thinking of removing those secondary cats; but I allready have Kleemann Headers/Primary Cats del/Resonator Delete. The sound is Awesome as is. I'm guessing taking out the secondaries will just make everything louder???
