Brake dust

How do you guys go about getting rid of all the brake dust in the front rims? I've driven the car for a week now and I see there's quite a bit collected on the rim already. Any suggestions? Clean well & often?

I use a high pressure water sprayer, you know the gas-engine driven type.

Only do it when the brake rotors are cold though.

I usually wax my rims in addition to my car. It makes it a lot easier to clean the brake dust off. Or try using P21s wheel cleaner. It does a pretty good job of cleaning the wheels.

If you want your rims to be touchless, why don't you use / buy something called "Kleen Wheel". Something like the cover which places between the brakes and wheels to eliminate the brake dust sticking on your rims.

However, you should consider every time when you drive your vehicle on the road, the road tar or asphalt may stick on your rims too.

"Kleen Wheel" is not allowed by Mercedes Benz, because it can reduce the cooling of the brakes. Therefore use wax as stated. If your aloy wheels can't be cleaned with whater, use bakeoven cleaner! Never use agressive cleaners or hard brushes.

The brake dust comes off with water and a little rubbing. I've just been using old cotton T-shirts to clean them...what do you guys use?

Old cotton t-shirts are good. I have a dedicated towel just for the wheels. After waxing the wheels, the dust does come off easier but you still have to wipe down the wheels, especially between the spokes.

All of those methods well suck besides the P21S Wheel cleaner and waxing the wheels. The clean wheel it looks terrible on any wheel. Try professional non-acidic cleaners that wont harm your rims.

www.topoftheline.com has two products There Wheel Wash "Power" and the HT-710 Wheel cleaner you spray and hose off if there is alot of brake dust maybe a little brushing will help. it also works great for takeing off the brake dust on the inner lip of the wheel the agents take off the glue which keeps the brake dust on the insides of your rims.

To make it easier to clean use sealent on your wheels instead of carnuba because it cant stand the heat well. Use something like Klasse AIO or Poorboys EX.

This should be in the detailing forum.
