Repair/Service Manual for the DIY'er

It seems like the best option for those of us who work on our own cars is to contact Mercedes and order the STAR dvd from them for $60.

Am I right in understanding that? Spent a few hours searching and that seems to be the only place people are getting something like that.

Worth the money?

Or buy your own copy of EPC and WIS on ebay. And ask questions here on the forum. We can be very helpful sometimes.

I went to STARtek and paid $19.99 for a 24 hour subscription and after inputting your VIN, you can pull up every single STAR manual article and print it. I'm sure there is some way to save it to PDF but I could not figure it out so I just ended up printing it, creating a table of contents, and putting it into 3 big binders with tabs for reference. It's been very helpful thus far.

I bought the service DVD from MB for $60 and also use their online free EPC. Works for most everything I've needed to do

I've had a couple of version of the WIS (2005, 2007, and a 2012) and a STAR Classic DVD from MB. There is no comparison between the 2012 WIS and the STAR or earlier versions of the WIS. The 2012 version comes bundled with EPC and it is fantastic. After entering your VIN, any service or repair can be looked up. Here's a link to the install docs. It runs under Windows 7, but you must have Windows 7 professional or ultimate and it must be installed in XP mode. If you have Windows 7 home or premium, it will not work. If you get an earlier version of the WIS, you'll have to do a lot more work to look up parts and service.

+1. That's what I use. Purchased a 2013 version since I now also have a 2013 GLK. Also run it under VM.
