There are only two pumps. The main pump does all the pumping and the sender unit pick it up from a small cup like container and sends it to the injectors. I guess this design allows to have less than a full tank of fuel and take crazy turns at speed without running out of fuel for that moment.

I guess when I said "https://www.rexbo.eu/pierburg/fuel-p...00717&at=11221 is the pump for the sending unit located on the driver side" it can be interpreted as the pump is on the driver side. I mean that the sending unit is located on the driver side. If you think your issue is on the driver side (expecting some whirl sound), than you issue may be related to the aux pump. In either case, the recommendation is to replace both pumps.

Update:
Had the pumps replaced, did not solve the problem. I told the shop to check the electrical components from the level sending unit to the relay. Just got off the phone with them and they said that one of the pins in the fuel pump connection on the level sending unit was melted.
Ordered a fuel level sending unit and it sounds like I could be back on the road by end of next week.
I am unimpressed with the shop for not checking something like that when I first brought the car in describing the issues.
