Honestly; can't confirm that till cooler should be removed to see if there are any water sneaks there,,

did you see if smoke comes blue or just white..?

It is definitely white and the condensation on the tip of the tailpipes is clear water and not oily. The oil is like coffee creamer color but only if I mix it (like the pic). The water in the coolant tank is clearer with patches of clear oilish looking oil on top like mold. Whenever I start the car it will be fine for he first 10-15 seconds, then the white smoke will start and progress like a boiling pot of water until I have to turn it off because of the fumes. This will reset if I turn the car off wait a minute and then turn it back on. I have not noticed a drop in coolant level nor oil level ( the car is saying its fine). What do you think?

I see,

it's better if you can open the crankcase, or at least drain the oil, it will shows-up clearly how water mixed with oil...!

Ok, so when I drain the oil what in specific am I looking for? Will it be obvious? Should I drain the coolant as well? I know that the oil has always looked kind of dark for synthetic oil and it was just serviced at the dealer.

Ok, I just drained the oil and it was brown and very thin I have attached some pics and a movie (if it shows up). It actually dripped like water towards the end of the drain. I am open to opinions.

It smells very similar to what is in the coolant tank but that is full and has see through splotches of oil on top.

That means water is fully cycled with oil,

prefer to drain all oil & water, replace the oil cooler, flush the Radiator, don't let this mixture more than that, it will harm everything..!

So from the color of the oil and other symptoms do you think that it is a good chance its the oil cooler?

I have not actually driven the car since the intake issue, I just started it up about 10 times and got the smoke.

Can the oil cooler be re-sealed with gaskets or do I need a new one?

Would this issue cause the white smoke?

Yeah sure, when head gasket goes bad or oil mixed with water, white with little blue smoke+coolant smell will shows-up

(as a part of burning mixture through Exhaust),

oil cooler can be re-sealed, but not prefer that, can't assure if coolant completely went away,,

*you can pull-out the cooler to see clearly about water/oil mixture..!

Ok, just thought I would give an update. I drained the coolant and it looked kind of a orangish oil color (pictured). I also removed the oil cooler and found that something was leaking but that could have been there for a while. The residual oil that you is from removing it, there was a little left inside the cooler that dripped out. I have attached some pictures for viewing.

Couple of questions.

I tested the oil cooler and put water in the oil pipes and it came out the other water pipe. Is that normal or is there supposed to be a burrier between the two? I have no idea how it works. Does anybody know how to test it?

I have found many new oil coolers with different part numbers. When I type in the part number a1121800065, other similar oil coolers that look the same come up with different part numbers. Supposedly they say that they are compatible?

Looks like cooler already gone,, there's a bath line wall between oil/water, seems seals damaged, then oil water got married with water,,

*oil cooler #: "112 188 04 01" or "112 188 06 01"

I personally don't think that your oil and water are mixed (acording to the pictures)
About the cooler, you can put a plug in one of the water nozzle, and put a hose with presure water in the other nozzle, and see if water exits from the two oil holes.

I agree, I don't see oil to water intermix there. When that happens, you get chocolate milkshake.

If you drained a sample, let it sit for a while. The oil and water will separate.

Not to mention, with a head gasket, you're getting coolant leaking directly into the cylinder and burning, hence the smoke.

With an oil cooler, you get coolant in the oil, but aside from leaky rings or valve seals/guides, you aren't burning it in such quantities.

Have you done at the least a compression test on the motor? I'd not rule out a bad fuel injector either.

Definitely doesn't look like the seal at the oil cooler is good anymore, but nore sure. Also doesn't look like oil is mixed with water, the oil looks fine.

My car puts out mad smoke in this cold weather but maybe that's just because I have headers and no cats

Your coolant should NOT be that color! MB coolant is blue and the mixture they sell at the dealer is 50/50 mix, so you mix it 50/50 with distilled water and that's what you put in the engine; but it still should be a blue color. Somebody put the wrong coolant in your car.

Read about what happens if you mix different coolants together that have different chemical compositions...it's not good.

If i was at your place i will do the folowing:

Asemble the cooler (change the 2 seals first) and start the car for 1 minute without coolant!
For 1 minute there will not be any problem!
If the car smokes again, your problem is not head gasket or something like that.

Second stage:
Remove the fuel rail, atach the injectors on it and let somebody crank the engine, watch the injectors stream

I took a look at the oil and the coolant and there does not seem to be any separation between the liquids. There was never any milkshake mixture anywhere? I drained the oil and I thought it looked kind of dark for synthetic. The injectors are new and I just put them in. The coolant reservoir had oily patches on top of the coolant but they were clear. The oil and the coolant reservoir smelled the same when I drained them. The car just had the 100K service done at the dealer and the previous owner gave me the receipt as proof. As far as the color of the coolant I don't know why its that color, the dealer did not say anything in the notes?

I could not do a compression test because I could not drive the car without smoking up the street lol and I do not have the equipment. The weird thing about it is that the smoke took a while to start coming out from cold then it just got progressively worse until it smoked up the garage and came into the house. The smoke was white and it really lingered like artificial fog. The car seems to run and idle ok. If its not the oil cooler, I am clueless? I also live in Southern California and it has not been cold here.

The color of the oil looks weird, assuming little bit oil involved there..!

did you drain the Radiator..?, need to see if the coolant color are the same, which circled in Radiator..!

Hi ZAYED, I drained all the coolant out of the radiator and it is in the tub that you see in the picture.

Also, when the coolant came out yesterday, it smelled horrible almost the same as the oil (like a chemical or carb cleaner smell)

Something must have mixed in some way. The oil was synthetic and I have never seen synthetic oil that dark (it had maybe 4K miles on it). The oil was as thin as water (and dripped like water from a faucet), I have never used 0 weight oil before so I am also not sure if its supposed to be that thin. I have also never seen coolant that color if it was supposed to be blue or not. (Edit, I do see that they make orange coolant)

I went out and tested the coolant and there seems to be no oil in it. I put it in an empty glass jar, let it sit and there was nothing that separated at all, it was all the same consistency. I am not an expert on oil but it is very dark brown but when I shake it up there is no milkshake bubble mixture at all. It also still smells horrible (maybe burnt).

If its not the oil cooler don't worry about it, the seals needed to be changed anyway.

I cannot afford to bring it in to a mechanic right now and it is killing me to trace the white smoke! .

Could the exhaust be blocked in some way to cause the white smoke?

I do remember that when I pulled that leaky injector out it was stuck open and was basically pissing gasoline into the cylinder. The only thing is, should the smoke be coming out for this long? I let it run for a total of 3 minutes and again, it starts off slow and then it starts pouring out. (Just a thought)
