They use 15% goods and services tax here on anything $400 and over. They charge it on the item value with the cost of shipping added on top. Not sure about gift options.

Australia has a much better arrangement in that regard. I remember the aussie govt saying they weren't going to look at lowering the limit as the extra revenue would be about the same as the cost to collect it.

Whatever it will be ..it will be worth it. Exit corner speed and confidence goes through the roof. LSD is hands down up there with best mods.

The quaife for the 210 gear/axle was originally QDF7V. You can still buy the original QDF7V (lowest price I've seen in the last month is $1399) and it will still fit in this application. However, when Birdsauto took over distribution and development of the Mercedes (and BMW) Diffs they made some improvements to it and it has been renumbered QDF28B. Now the QDF28B is 876 pounds (plus 44 pounds shipping) which is $1375 shipped ... and, during this group buy (which ends april 10 2015) the price for the QDF28B is $1180 including shipping.

hope that clears up some questions ,

Cheers,
Chris

did they fix the c-clip issue that existed for older axle style cars? i have the QDF7V in my w208 clk55 and still trying to solve this. maybe its because i track my car but car is again in the shop because of diff leak and axle shaft moving around. i believe this is an issue with some c32 and slk32.

C-Clip

If your talking about the C-Clip that holds the bearings in, they where a PITA to put back in on my 2003 C32, but I haven't had any leakage or anything, they where tight and I had to beat them down and pry them together at the same time, couldn't find a tool strong enough to pull them together so I had to make a tool, but did finally get them in, it was the hardest part of the whole installment.

This is a question that would be best answered by Birds (relative to your, or any, specific application).
What I know is that based on your VIN, Birds will be provide you with any information that is specific to your installation that you will need.

My understanding is that on the older stub axles (in older mercedes aplications) some used snap rings and some used retaining clips.

The style that use retaining clips must be handled in a special way as there is NO access to re-install these clips (that were originally installed on the end of the stub after it passed thru the spider gear). for this style, Birds now has a detailed procedure for a basic modification that secures the stubs in the new DIFF.

For the style that uses snap rings to retain their stubs, I have heard that refinements to the "snap ring retention detail" in the DIFF is just one of the changes made to the C32 quaife that makes the QDF28b diff superior to the old QDF7v.

That is all I know about that (to the best of my understanding) ....
Again, I would suggest that anyone who wants specifics on their application contact Birds (or Quaife who will direct you to Birds).

hope that helps,
Chris

Group Buy ending ....

The group buy is almost over.

Birds has had 16 members send an inquiry and of those, 8 members have now purchased their Quaife.
I installed mine in my SL55 the week before last ... and am loving it.

There is still time to take advantage of this deal. It technically ends tomorrow the 10th, but James (Bird) told me this morning that anyone who contacts him expressing interest in buying and completes payment before end of Business Monday (5PM London) will still be able to get this special deal.

thanks for everyone's participation.

Cheers,
Chris

I just got a note from James Bird at Birdsauto in Which he asked me to thank everyone for their participation in the group buy and he wanted to mention some new products that they are adding to the very complete list of Mercedes models that they currently have developed quaife differentials for ...

.... he wrote,

"Hi Chris! Hope you're well.

Had a few late participants in the group buy, so we got 11 altogether, which I'm very happy with and grateful to you for. Thanks again for all your efforts Chris.

If you could pass on my thanks to everyone that purchased and/or submitted inquiries, I would really appreciate it. Sales have been steadily increasing over the last 6 months but we sold EIGHTY last month, which is a record for the Mercedes units, and I believe this group buy has certainly played its part in creating more interest. So thank you very much.

If anyone has any questions on anything Quaife Mercedes, they can contact me (James Bird) directly at quaife@birdsauto.com, or our partners in Colorado at Kleeman USA http://www.kleemann.dk/kleemann-usa/.

Lastly, next week we are receiving stock of 2 brand new Quaife LSD units which will fit models such as the 172 SLK55 AMG, 204 C220 CDI, 207 E250 and E300 CGI, 209 CLK280, 209 CLK 350, 218 CLS 300, 231 SL350 and more. Let us know if you're interested!

Thanks again.

Regards, James
quaife@birdsauto.com
james.bird@birdsauto.com

to which I replied,

Thank you, James and everyone at Birds for making a great product like the Quaife differential even better and more accessible buy refining its design and defining its Mercedes applications.
Great working with you too !
Cheers,
Chris

It ended 2 weeks ago (april 10th) ... sorry.

It is still a great product at the regular price (which dropped recently for the QDF28b) you should send James an email and ask him what he can do for you ... or contact Kleemann (both emails are above)

Cheers,
Chris

oddly Kleemann' site lists it for $1734 (and it shows the seals implying that they are included) http://catalog.kleemann.dk/catalog/3...-v6-m112k/lsd/

but I would just send James at birds an email ....
http://www.birdsauto.com/quaife/sear...es&s=26100&mi=
here you can see they list yours for 876 pounds ... add 44 pounds for fedex to your USA door ... and it comes to $1395 (at today's exchange rate)

Cheers,
Chris
