This is how it works ... you've no doubt heard about the quality of QUAIFE differentials and how they improve the performance of your car ... and you're probably thinking, "what better time then during a 15% OFF GROUP-BUY to get one?" (and 20% off for their most popular Mercedes Diff the QDF27b !! )
SO... you click on this Link for Birdsauto (the company designated by QUAIFE to define, refine and distribute ALL quaife diffs for Mercedes and Bmw applications)....

When filling it in make sure you include this info:

Based on your VIN, they (Birds) will be able to provide you with a model number for the Quaife ATB differential that is correct for your car and be able to let you know if there are any special installation notes (eg. if yours is an early model with bolt-on axles, your axle stubs might need a simple modification, etc).

Worth mentioning, ALL Quaife differentials supplied by BIRDS come with OEM Mercedes seals at no extra charge !

Once you get that Quaife model number from them and the calculated group-buy price, you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to participate in the group buy or not. WORTH NOTING: Birds has offered to make this special deal available through April 10, 2015 (giving you plenty of time to decide where you might have it installed, and if the cost justifies the benefit for you). The next step would be to provide a deposit (to demonstrate earnest participation in the group buy) and after 5 deposits are taken , they will start shipping at the 15% off deal (20% off for those getting the QDF27b). I don't know much about lsd's, but would this run in a c55 as well?

 

The quaife for the C55 is slightly less expensive (876 pounds - 20% plus 44 pounds for shipping or about $1137 shipped) under this group buy as indicated in my first post.

no, they both now have the same catalog price ( after they just lowered the C32 diff in their catalog by 83 pounds) However, the C55 diff is getting the extra-special 20% off for this group buy (see pricing in post #1)

The C55 uses the 215 axle (the C32 is the older 210 style).

I should have instructions up by tomorrow on how to "inquire" as part of the group-buy.

Both great questions. (now lets get some answers : )

My experience is not specific to how a C55 behaves (relative to ESP, etc) with the LSD ... however, in general ... it is an improvement as the car will not over-react to minor wheel spin (like it can in stock form) mainly because minor wheel spin is eliminated by the LSD. This would be a great place for C55 owners with first hand experience to chime in ... or, alternatively, were I you (a C55 owner considering an LSD), I would search for threads offering C55 LSD feedback and link them here for others to make use of as well. AND... in that search you will likely find answers to your second question and return here to share some install cost info as well (I cant help you there either, as I do my own work). Sorry I could not be more specific, but I have an SLK32 with an LSD and an SL55 that I am getting one for ... so my first hand knowledge (and thirst for) lies mostly elsewhere.

I just finished working out all of the details of the group-buy with James (Bird) this morning and re-wrote my original post to include the instructions for getting the deal (rather than it tagging it to the end where folks have to go looking for it).

I also asked James if Birds could provide an approximate labor figure (based on VIN) that prospective participants may find useful in getting a local install quote ... and he said. "yes" (so request that info in the comments section of the "inquiry form" as indicated in post #1).

this is the status as of this morning....
There are already 3 confirmed . The deal was finalized with Birds barely a week ago and we already have 3 of the 5 confirmed participants (and more than a dozen Inquiries that have been submitted with deposits likely in process) AND, there is still a month left to get to the "5 participant" level (so I am very confident we will get to the next discount level ... it's just a matter of when).

The group-buy discount IS IN PLACE. There is no danger of it not going through. The minimum discount of 7.5% (and 10% on QDF27b) applies to every Diff purchased from BIRDS through April 10th 2015. ONCE we have 5 confirmed participants (confirmed with deposit or purchase) the discount goes up to 15% (and 20% for QDF27b).

I installed a quaife in my c32 about ten years ago, and it was definitely the best mid I've ever done to the car. Or any car for that matter. It's the way the c32 should have came from the factory.
