H&R Spring * Coilovers

Heard H&R springs are just for cruisin' as opposed to Coilover showing a noticible difference in performance...

H&R springs and KONI shocks on a W203 are gonna cost round 500....Coilovers around $1500...

Heard Coilovers feel like a BRAND SpANKIN' new pair of sneakers...

But Im not as much into performance as much as I am into COMFORT OF RIDE...

My questions are...
1. Is it worth $1000 more to go with coilovers...
2. (i know performance is noticeable,) but is ride also noticeable?...
3. Do The Upgraded Koni Shocks make a difference...Before a year of use, in contrast with the stock....
4. When you lower the car with springs and shocks will it effect the comfort in a negative way///
(i drive a BENZ...i want to keep it that way...I dont want it to feel like an ACCORD bouncing all the way to WEST L.A....)

what ya'll think???....

if you go for koni shocks... it is still goin to feel bouncy. i acutally had koni shocks and H&R springs on my E36 bmw. and after i switched to H&R coilovers... i saw improvement in both ride AND performance.

Where can you get Koni's and H&R's for $500?? Last time I checked the Koni's by themselves were more than that.

The problem is not with running the Koni's the problem is with the H&R springs.

The 2 advantages to coilovers are 1) you can adjust the ride height 2) the manufacturer has matched the spring rates to the shocks saving you the trouble of have to do research.

If you are interested in comfort be careful it will be easier to screw your ride up than to improve it.

I used to have Eibach springs on my car for 2 years and a few months ago I've bought my self H&R Coilover. Now this is just my 2 cents...the ride is noticeable firmer than Eibach, not harsh ... but still very good for everyday ride. The handling is excellent...you won't regret buying Coilover after you drive your car in twisties and long sweepers

If you're into comfort ride and couldn't give a rats *** about handling performance then I'd say just get lowered springs. Save your money and use the leftover money for something else.
If you like to change wheels often, change car heights and excellent handling then get Coilovers

As for me H&R coilover is really worth the money...i even spent US$300 to get those suckers shipped to Australia and paid tax too

Lowered springs will never be exactly the same as stock ride. I doubt if any aftermarket springs or coilovers for that matter will give you the smooth stock ride - it will be firmer and hence not have the "soak-up all the road uneveness" feel of stock. They are not unduly harsh unlike the aftermarket (I think it was Tein) that I had on my previous Mitsu Lancer - those were jarringly hard.

KW reputedly makes the best solutions according to my "knowledgeable" BMW and MB owner-friends. Version1 (without damperner adjustability) can cost upwards of US$ 1,500 with Version 2 even more.

What's w/ the sound after suspension upgrade?

While on the topic of suspension, H&R c/o and Evosport sway in particular, I have a question.

Well, I finally got the H&R coilover and Evosport swaybar installed. After maybe 1/2 year of letting the boxes lay in the living room, I was surprising to find that the MB dealer took the job happily. Installation was quite expensive, but that's better than not having it installed.

Anyways, here is a problem after the drop. I heard screeching noise from the front suspension. This is especially significant when going over speed bumps and during a nose-dive after a downhill transition. A rather unlpleasant noise, where even pedestrian could hear.

THose of you guys who did a suspension change, was this something that you encountered? How did you rid the problem? Thanks.

This is the ever famous sway bar BUSHINGS noise!!! Ask your dealer to get you the latest version of the sway bar bushings and grind it bigger to accomodate your Evo bars.

Sleepygeneral: Our bars come with bigger bushings. Make sure dealer installed and lubricated them.
