so I ordered an intake from fabtech-performance. of the 7 to 14 days when I ordered back at the beginning of july, I just received it today. Now I went round and round with steve about this thing and why it was taking so long. I give him credit about being very patient with me as I was losing mine with him. Well it arrives today, first the y does not fit onto the throttle body. I even took the throttle body off and put it together. guess what still doesn't fit behind the firewall. the welds inside the y are gouged and look horrible. I will post pictures later. Anyone who has had experience with this intake please help me out. I shouldn't have to modify a piece I just paid $750 for. This was an accidental purchase on my company card which I wrote them a check. I called my accounting department and they said if he refuses to refund, they will file a fraudulent charge. I'm so very frustrated with this right now. This is my payback for trying to save a few bucks and searching his companies name after the fact.
I wouldn't say karma man. Just not searching before hand to discover this guys Steve is a joke. I've told I was sorry, was just taking care of someone that took care of me first.
C32s have a very limited room between the TB and the firewall. I run an 80mm TB with a larger y-pipe from I think a 2005? SL and i had to cut out a chunk of the firewall to make it fit. See if Steve will give you a partial refund for the y-pipe and get yourself the y-pipe form the 55 platform. Keep the rest.
No doubt they have limited room, I don't mind modifying the firewall as well if need be. But look at these welds,
Just really not happy after waiting so long for the price and not even a spot for the pcv, granted I can modify myself for it, but why should I have to?
yeah that about sums it up and took almost 2 months for it. I talked to my company and the accountant who processes our cards. she said she will take care of it if he won't.
I don't see any ugly welds. I see someone who maybe hacked at it with a high speed dremel. Where the two pieces meet I can't see much evidence of welding at all, I can't imagine what the other side looks like.
I wouldn't touch the firewall personally. The name firewall is a good reason to leave it alone. Just get the SL55 Y-pipe as suggested and it will work fine.

Thanks for correcting me. Yes someone did a horrible job of trying to clean something up. But my point is, for the price the job should of been done a little better. I am not happy either way. Im just looking at getting this back and ordering the needs wings or building my own for less than half the price now after this.
The Y pipe on C32-SLK32 must be installed with the T/B inlet Facing straight up. then once in the engine compartment it is rotated carefully to go around the T/B lip. On Some SLK32-C32 AMG Cars there was a Variance in mid year splits on the T/B and some of them had a larger lip causing the Y pipes to have a very tight clearance issue. For those Cars you Can Utilize your Factory Y pipe, and attach our intake to the ends, You can send me the Y pipe back for a Credit. I don’t do a huge volume of C32-SLK 32 Intakes, but I have only have to swap 3 out in the past year for th stock Y pipe. In regards to the photos you are showing, Those are grinding marks form the Burrs caused by cutting and welding. Surely we do not want that to end up in your engine, so we grind around those areas.
For me the purpose of getting away from the stock system was the bottle neck at the ypipe. Which to me puts me in the same position i was already in. im awaiting his reply on a refund. This is information that should be told before hand. It would of swayed me in the need wings direction.
Throttle body off photos. After careful inspection it's no possible to even remotely cut the firewall out even if I wanted as it appears the windshield wipers run under there.
Wow... thanks for posting this I was debating buying from fabtech just because it looked similiar to needswings but slightly cheaper.. after seeing this, and how the company has treated you... HELL to the NO
Yeah big mistake he offered to refund me for the ypipe but this deal has already left a sour taste in my mouth. And to charge 20% restocking fee on top of it all. I'm filing a charge back they Bank of America because I see this will go no where with him
i never knew that Fabtech had experience with the M122K platform? His work is done in his parents garage. The restocking fee is pure BS.
Since you cant get him on the phone I believe now I know why. Didn't dawn on me till I need to call and ask a question at the time why he will only respond to emails. Now I know!!! Rob @ Needswings.com is sending me the sl55 y since I couldn't find one in Omaha at all. I probably could of found it if I were back in Houston. I think I am going to mail it back after talking to the bank tomorrow.
Ok so I decided to order the sl55 ypipe, and send steve his ypipe back. well after putting it together to see how it will go, the filter tubes are to damn big. on the driver side it sits up to high to even shut the hood, they are just to damn big. cant believe he has not even test fitted this on a car
