C32 moonroof. . .option or standard?

I just purchased a 2002 C32 which, other than the CD changer in the glove box, seems to be option-free. One item that caught my attention is the fact that all of the other C32s which I have seen have a moonroof (mine does not). I looked at MBZ's website for the new C32s, and it appears that the moonroof is standard on the 2004 model. Was it an option in 2002? Also, anyone know the weight savings by having no moonroof? Thanks for any info.

moonroof

According the mbusa.com website the moonroof is standard on the 2002 C32, I wish it wasn't, but it appears to be standard on the E55, CLK55, C32.

Maybe your car was custom ordered, with a moonroof delete?

Was yours a USA model?

Your car is very early production I would guess..

There were a handfull of C32's that came in very early on that were sunroof free and most were sold at a large discount for they were not speced out as the C32 should have been. THe people that ordered these cars (with the sunroof mostly passed on those cars and waited for cars with the sunroof).

The Sunroof is standard on the C32 and has been since the begining of production but for some reason MB send this batch of cars to the states without that one feature.

You were asking about weight savings in the car and well the lack of this option reduces about 50-80 lb. from the curb weight! And even more importantly, that weight is positioned very high in the body. Without a sunroof, the car has a lower center of gravity!

Get a CF hood and upgrade to ligheter wheels (renntech wheels weigh 18-19 lb. vs. the 25-27 for the stock amg's), tires (Toyo T1-S) and brakes (RENNtech, Brembo, Stoptech) and you could take a good chunk out of the cars rather porky curb weight!

In this case I think the lack of a sunroof works out to be a benefit to you!

Good luck...enjoy the lighter car!

sunroof

I think RapidG's '02 C32 (Euro delivery) did not include the sunroof. He noticed after the pick up!

No moonroof

Thanks for the info people. As far as I can tell, the car was first sold in January 2002, so it would have been early production. It was first registered in New Jersey, but I don't know if it might have been a Euro import. I was so smitten with the car after test driving it that I didn't even notice that there was no moonroof until I was 50 miles down the road!

Actually, I just checked the production date in the door jamb and it is 05/01, so mine was probably a very very early production car.

Sunroof Optional

on 2k2 Canadian c32's
I can't remember what I paid ($1,500-$2000 Cdn) but I think it should be "standard" on this type of car.

Nevertheless, enjoy the weight savings

wow, there might be moonroof less C32, out there!

I just need to find an early build C32. Unfortunately, they are very hard to find, when looking for one.

holy moly...that's basically the first couple months that they/AMG first started to put the C32 together.

IMO having the moonroof is cool, useful in a lot of situation. BUT those that without the moonroof probably perform better than those with the moonroof.

It looks better without the sunroof. The sunroof breaks up the lines.

Only benefit I can see for a sunroof is ventilation.

I think it would be awesome to have one without the s/r and go ahead and lighten it up and see what the car would do if you could get down to @ 3,000~3,200 lbs...
