mercedes view on pulley mod

over the weekend i got together with a MB district tech rep from nortnern calif. who i use to work with at dealer level concerning some issues on my 209 clk500, he mentioned to me in a conversation concerning aftermarket mods. that mercedes recently distributed a bulletin notifying dealers of a crackdown on modded pulleys, you know with the typical "keep an eye out for these" type stuff telling them that great care has been taken by producers of these to make them look O.E and the typical spew, not trying to start any problems but this guy is the 'REAL MCCOY" when it comes to MB tech issues, the word may already be out, but i dont follow this forum

Not surprised one bit. Audi has done this for a while, looking for chipped ECU's and other mods. Once your on the **** list...good luck getting any majoy problems fixed through warranty, at ANY dealer.

Mercedes Benz
so true

S4's are great cars and they are SO easy to upgrade to near 340 hp with just small bolt on's The bad part is that the turbo's efficiency zone is about where the stock boost levels are so any more boost turns to failure. Almost all S4's I know with stock K03's have failed. That’s why there are turbo upgrades!

Same goes for the pulleys. MB will learn but the good thing is that 40 hp increase in a supercharged car does not lead to failure like in a twin turbo car.

MB has the "8" status for all modded cars. IT means you have no warranty on the items which were modified and all changes need to be approved by the factory rep. Best to leave the motor stock IMHO

But being friendly with the service manager, techs, service writers, and shop foreman always helps! The reality is that keeping the car clean, in good working order and always being respectful/polite will be far more beneficial than a good yelling fest.

Stock is safe

Yes, keep good dealership helps a lot !

a car accident happened to my C32 6 months ago.
the Evosport I/C hit broken is one of the damages, I told the
local MB dealer to recover it as best as they can.

Those die hard routine sustainers then held a meeting & did a study on this stage-1 C32
They HOOK IT UP perfectly as they're running a tuner shop,
good work !

I guess you better have to save the stock pulley and put it back on when the engine fails
