Nicely Equipped and Priced C32 on Ebay

Nice looking '02 C32 on Ebay, only 19K miles and the reserve has been met at $32K. Also has COMAND and blue/charcoal interior. Clear title, looks nice. There has to be something up with this car, price seems too low for what it is. It is the sellers first sell though which may have some indication.

I thought that as well, but it is listed as a company(Low Country Auto Sales), not an indvidual seller. However, for all we know he could just be the owner and selling it under a company name.

Its still a good deal in my book!

I wonder if this C32 is warranty blacklisted?

If Mercedes starts flagging cars with pulley mods and denies the warranty, then the true resale value of that C32 could go down.

How do we check to see if the C32, we are looking at is not blacklisted for Mercedes engine warranty?

Not positive on this, but I would assume you would get the VIN of the vehicle you are looking at and then call MB to get the service history of the vehicle. They should tell you everything you want (or don't) want to know.

The front brake rotors aren't gone yet and one set of tires at 19,000 sounds about right. Let's say the tires were replaced at 15-16k, you can easily judge the wear and tear from that info.

They say the warranty is still intact, .... so legally it can't exclude the motor, so go for it.

I always thought you could get a MB service history from your SA on another VIN you were going to buy, mine said nope, she legally couldn't give it out

I am familiar w/ this place. I can't say anything personally about their reputation, but it's one of those places in a bad part of town that advertises "no money down", "Good credit, bad credit, we dont' care". etc (if it's the one I'm thinking of). There are 3 or 4 MB only used car lots in Charleston, so I don't know why they would have that car (my guess is it's the owner's or something). There is only one MB dealer in Charleston (or within 120 miles), so I'm sure you could talk to them about the history on it if you're interested. I've never seen the car around town, though.

a dealer will absolutely NOT release information about a vehicle to a strager who knows just the VIN number. I had to sign release forms for people who were interested in purchasing my car and wanted to verify the history through the dealer. I would be PISSED if they didnt come to me first and the dealer would be in some deep poo poo

Interesting HBL wants 44k for an 02. I was in there last Saturday looking at an 04 E55. They offered me 31k for my 03 C32(purchased 10/02) with 17k miles. Although...They did come down almost 4k on the E55

- I'm still driving the C32

2002 C32 Black/Charcoal
A deal too good to be true

I have bought and sold hundreds of items on eBay (although never a car) and, with rare exceptions, 'too-good' deals are not. I would be wary of this seller (the nail in the coffin being the fact that the dealer is apparently one of those semi-sketchy ones in a bad area). I wouldn't just ignore the possibility of cows flying, however. As someone else mentioned, this might be the dealer's personal car, and maybe he was offered 32K on a trade in, so anything beyond his eBay reserve would just be gravy.

If you are going to invest the time in investigating this car, I think that the previous post that "the dealer won't tell you squattola without a release is right-on." As such, you will need to take a different approach. If it were me: First, I would e-mail the dealer and ask: (1) where he got the car from and when?; (2) whether he has all of the service records for the car (and if he will immediately fax them to you)?; (3) whether he minds if the sale is conditioned upon an inspection (with the results acceptable to you) with the local MBZ dealer. If this dealer is legit, he should have no problem answering/providing the above. On the other hand, if this car is sweet, I doubt that it will go for $32K.

If they are slippery...

Several days left. "Reserve Met" doesnt mean it is SOLD at that price.

If they are less than above board they can just have the owner's wife bid 44K on the final hour.

Another plan: I think they can cancel the auction if they don't like the way it is going. I have see that before.

Zero Feedback and it's eBay. I'd rather not risk getting conned.

I'd first want to see the car in person.

Check the car history on carfax or a similar car history website.

Have a mechanic look things over to make sure everything is order.

If none of the above is doable, I'd rather pass...he can easily take your downpayment and take off without even delivering anything. And the scam protection policy offered by PayPal/eBay is such bs...there's so much nonsense going on eBay, and those sellers get away with it.
