Heavy steering, 05 C55

Hi there,

I've recently (last year) acquired a C55. Since my purchase, it's always had a heavy steering, I've done the following work:

(1) replaced the speed sensor
(2) replaced the fluid reservoir as it seems to be leaking

Everything under the car is spot on. No leaks from the rack etc.

A couple of weeks ago I've had to top up with Pentosin as it was making a groaning noise near full lock either way.

The steering remains to be quite heavy...

Has anyone got any pointers which part I should replace next?

Heavy is normal. The reviews I read on C55s from when they were new also noted a "heavy" feel. If it is just heavy it is normal. If you are fighting it and/or feel it fighting back then there could be another issue, but I don't have any suggestions for what it could be.

I love my C55 but have always hated the Power Steering whines and groans. When I get a chance later this year I am going to try to add a pump from something else...

It could be power steering pump, or it can leak which is a problem for our cars

Ahh.. Is this a common problem? My mechanic reckons it's the rack.. On what symptoms do these racks fail though?

Cheers

C55
Heavy steering is common for the c55s. I had my PS pump replaced (died on me) and the steering still felt heavy.

what would the strut bushings have to do with stiff steering?

did you ever get the chance to swap the power steering motor? I seem to have a similar issue and was looking at doing the same thing
