kids? other passengers frequently?
Is this going to be your daily driver or a fun car? If a fun car, Porsche, without a doubt. If your daily driver, depends on whether you like to shift (manual Porsche v. auto E55), what you do, what you want to project, and who is usually in your car. My personal choice would be the E55, as I am too lazy to shift, have a kid, don't give a rat's *** about my image, and usually end up with a bunch of lazy f***s tagging along for a ride. Really, how do you spend your driving time? If your "automotive orgasm" is going 'slideways' around turns on Angeles Crest Highway, buy the Porsche. If you are more of the smooth and deliberate type, the E55 is an awesome performance sedan that will hang with the Porsche, without screaming "early 40's and balding!"

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
Pierre...i have both and i have to tell you... performance wise, not much of a difference. all out flash, go turbo.. its a bigger head turner... e55 a great sleeper with comfort. But with the turbo you can get away with winter driving with new tires. Honestly, i say go turbo, i have had far far less problems with it, and it is not a garage queen.

Pierre check the 6speedonline forums there are plenty of good examples of used 2001/2002s for about $10K less. Of course that factory warranty is something that gives it a big plus but I would see what you could negotiate some sort of extended warranty with the Porsche dealership.
I also suggest waiting till July/August if you can 996 residuals will drop heavily once the general population hears about the 997 (minor refresh to the 996 so a Turbo should be out at launch).

Since its basicly impossible to put these two cars next to eachother for a "which one is best" tryout.
It all depends on what kind of car you need, you want, ect.
I bought a C32 instead of an M3 or maybe 911 because I wanted comfort, good town driving (auto), a sleeper, a descent backseat.
Maybe the E55 can match the 911turbo in a 1/4mile race, and maybe you can fit a travelbag in the turbo.
But in the end, you dont take 3 friends and go for a trip in the 911. And you dont take the E55 for serious track driving.
Good luck with your choice![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If I already had a comfort/long distance car, I would go for a sportscar.

I dunno what to tell you. I myself am having this same dilemma. I already have a deposit in on a 2005 E55, but with rumors of the 6.3L NA coming, I would hate to take a bigger hit than I need to. As it is, the initial big drop in value has already been taken on the Turbo, and overall, I think the turbo will hold its value better. I have also heard that with teh right tires, the turbo is great in the snow. These are all thigns going through my head. I am not a fan of hte yellow (Im looking for black or seal gray), but thats on you, not us to decide.
In the end, I am checking the insurance rates to see if htey are close ( I am 25 so there may or may not be a big difference). IF its reasonably close, I still wont know what to do, but if they arent, then I know im "stuck" with the E55. If such a big change werent occurring with teh E55, then I would be ok with it. The engine change is what has cause me to look elsewhere.

Watch out on some of the early 2001 TT's Porsche had problems with A LOT of oil consumption and some even had the Mono Block wheels, not the hollow spoke wheels.
I have both too and I LOVE driving the E55. The Porsche is a real cop magnet. (Mine is also Guards Red...) You need to pick which ever one you feel more comfortable with. I had a 97 993 TT and wished I never sold it. I still love the older BIG WHALE TAIL look.
Good Luck,
ROB

It looks as if the majority says Porsche and I have to say that I agree! Even though it is not my first color choice, it is a great car that will handle much better than the W211. This aspect will come in handy up in those twisty mountain roads.
Just my $.02

All these nutheads that have your answer without knowing anything about you!
If you want image, get the Porsche. But, then again, if you wanted image, wouldn't you be shopping the prancing horse?
If you want a real car that an intelligent woman will respect you for, the only answer is the E55. In other words,if your "significant other" is subdued and intellectual, pick the MBZ. If life has led you to the "not so bright, but enthusiastic" side of the female (we hope) spectrum, go for the Porsche!
If I am totally misreading you, (and a woman is not in your recent past or future), I would go for a VW Cabriolet (white).

He Pierre,
If I where you I would get the E55. Knowing you it wont take long before having it tuned to 600 HP and you will leave a porche turbo guy grinding his teeth.
I love teasing the Carrera guys ... they have no idea what hit them when they see me getting smaller !
