Rotors and pads question
Recently bought a 2002 c32 in Orlando. Got the car home and the next day noticed a chatter and shimmy when braking moderately
hard. The dealer put on new rotors and pads and all was OK. 2000 miles later the same condition started again. It is so bad that I either always have to brake lightly or wait until the last moment and brake hard to avoid the chatter and shimmy. I do not race the car and am easy on brakes. Any ideas out there to what is causing this?

Are you aware that when you wash the car, you have to wait at least one hour for the rotors to cool down otherwise you can warp them permanently (cold water stream). Just a wild guess, here.

That would be my suggestion also... cold water and hot rotor do not mix very well. I have had this problem on some older cars and have since waited about an hour before blasting cold water on them. It could be something totally different (poor alignment) but I cant think of anything else.

rotors on modern cars dont suffer from this problem as much. Think about it, if they would warp from cold water contact, youd be seeing warped rotors everywhere when sudden downpours occured, or if you drove through standing water.
Did you get a black C32 with nav, cd changer?

Seriously, get the brakes checked out at the dealer again, maybe you can get new rotors, or they are pretty close to needing replacing anyways. Good thing you got a warranty.

My dealer in Fort Myers has agreed to replace rotors and pads on the front. Mercedes rep has approved this job. 3400 miles on brakes and rotors and they need to be replaced! The thought is that Orlando mechanic may have done something wrong.

It sounds like your MBZ "tech", who was extremely tired from the "row from Havana' " messed up your pads and/or rotors. This is why Lucy was always beetching at Ricky.

My car is at the dealer today! One of the things for them to check (besides the "recall") is to inspect the discs. I told them I was concern with safety on braking when they have miniscule "cracks" on them. The tech said: "I don't know what we can do for the discs....I think MB will only cover for them until 1year/10,000 miles.......we'll see!". So we'll see!!!
If its stupid or too $$, I'll probably buy them the rotors and pads and ask NormC32 to install them for me for track days only! (I'm sure that a few beers will be at good tease for this kind of work!....what do you think Norm?!!!
