2003 Recall letter and dealer experience

I took my car to the dealer for several reasons:
1) "Recall" letter for my car
2) "Clacking"noise comming from the left (driver side) at low speeds (1-40) with twisting or minor road bumps.
3) driver (botom) seat...not heating!

I went to Bedford MB (OH). Their attention was great! I mention to them to please check my rotors. "I think there are some very small cracks on the rotors....it may be a safety issue but....just check them out". The service advisor told me " I'll see what I can do since brakes are usually under warraty for 1 year/10,000 miles.....I'll see what I can do"

They gave me a 1,400 mile ML! In less than 3 hours the service advisor was already calling me for an update: will FedEx order the seat part, the recall will be fixed, they found some bushings in the left wheel and will be changed.......and by the way....I called MB and they decided to change the rotors, brakes, etc all under warranty'!!!

That was great!!!! I obviously did not tell them that I occasionally track the car!!!:p

They recommended for me to change the back pads since they were "rusted" ($169 including labor!)

Got the car back!!! Beautiful NEW rotors/brakes!! New brakes in the back!! ECU fixed! No noise in the front! BUT>>> they ordered the C-Class seat heater and they have to wait for the AMG one to arrive.....so..they apologized and told me they will come to my house or work to pick up the car when ready to finish the job!!

Here is the job description:

#1) Brake system concern. Client states craks in rotors-small but should not be there. Ride with tech. Front rotors cracking. Found cracks in front rotors around air holes. Replaced. Front breake rotors & pads.

# 004-420-05-20 Brake Shoe (1)
# 220-540-07-17 Sender unit (2)
$0

#2) Wheel/tire concern. Client states left front wheel noise per mtl. front stabilizer links & bushings worn. Test driven. R&R front belly pan. Intalled uodated front stabilizer links and bushings. rechecked for noise.
parts# 203-323-17-85 rubber mount (2)
# 203-320-26-89 rod, torsion (2)
# 203 323-12-40 Bracket, spr (1)
# 203-323-11-40 Bracket (1)
# 913023-012002 Nut (4)
$0

#3) Campaigns (ie recalls)
Client states received letter campaign # 2003-090005. Engine control module. Engine management flash update. performed engine management flash update. Version code. D C 54950278.

I asked if this could have changed my 93 octane set up. They say no (but I'm not too sure. Actually the car feels very powerfull (but don't know if it is the ML factor for 2 days!!

#4) Service rear brakes. Rear brake pads cracked & falling appart. Replaced rear brake pads.
paert # 003-420-30-20

$76.70 (parts) $93 (labor)

No complaints since I got new rotors and pads for free!! I ask if this ones will have warranty if it happens again and they replied "certainly".....hahahahaha...more track days!!!

Thanks!

Its amazing that dealer and dealer keep ordering the stock C-class seat heaters for C32's. Same thing happened to me a while back.

Just got the car back from dealer, fixed similar issues as jcanabal mentioned in his post. One thing noticed, the auto tranny shifts differently; more of the way I'd like it to.

As I've read elsewhere on this forum that ECU adapts to driver's behavior. Of the 2 yrs I owned my car, maybe 1/4 of the time the car was left sitting or others (weak drivers) drove it. While the remaining 3/4 time, I just use it mostly for 5 min commute to and from work. Considering it snows for 1/2 of the year here in CT, the only "quality" time I spent w/ my C32, hence it learning to "properly" shift, was quite little. I guess my ECU thought it's pilot as a whimp driver.

Back to the point, did any of you that done the emission related recall for ECU adjustment experienced a different feeling of tranny shifting? The closest I could compare: before--tranny hesitates to downshift when car travelling @50mph and stepped on the pedal; now--crips two-step down shift immediately after I stepped on pedal. (I guess from 5 to 3 that is?)
