Issue with Mercedes Parts Warranty
Last year I had the P0120 code come up on my car, a scan revealed it was the pedal assembly. One year later the same issue, P0120 and a pedal failure code. I bought last years replacement from Mercedes Benz in Hoffman Estates, Il. I called today and verified that the part was backed for 1 year and still covered. They then proceeded to tell me that in order to get the part replaced I would need to 1)tow the car in 2)pay to diagnosis the issue.
Both of these cost exceed the cost of the part itself.
I am done with Mercedes, I have an E550 Coupe, SL600, and a C32
I used to love these cars and put alot of work and money in them over the years. So disappointed today

If the pedal is in fact faulty again then the part, labor, and tow will be covered. If the diagnosis reveals a different issue than you will be on the hook and they will be saving themselves from handing over a free part.

Yeah when I look up that code which is the generic obd code it translates to Mercedes specific codes P202E and P2032 which are both faults for M16/6 throttle valve actuator. Nothing about the actual pedal.

Code reader indicated it was the pedal switch; again had this last year car would go in limp home mode. swapped the pedal and back to life, same code same indicator on the reader today. Not an unusual issue with Mercedes

To be honest man, almost every dealer is like that now. None of them want you working on your own car anymore and the system is not willing to help you out in any way. I've had good luck working with the guys at MB St. Charles (when they are in a good mood and not busy). But other than that you're on your own for parts warranties if you are doing the work yourself. I would try buying the part off eBay. I've gotten OEM throttle bodies that I've been using for the past 50k miles for $30.

You can get a rebuilt throttle body off Rock Auto for $196.00; the only issue is I see the wiring harness is epoxied to the TB

Ah, I saw that in a very old thread somewhere. They believed there was a poor connection between the TB and the Connector so they epoxied the connection, it should not be this way. I'm not sure what the best way would be to remove that to be honest. I'll ask around.

This looks factory, there is an epoxy between the Black AMG cover and the Connector into the TB

Pedal replaced drove for 50 minutes, no codes or issues. Simulated sitting in traffic and let some heat build up in the motor, still ran fine. Hoping its fixed, although I know sometimes these issues come and go.

I sprayed it with connector cleaner when it was on the car to see if the connector was gummed up, still would not come off so I pulled the throttled body to check it and found that the unit it sealed in epoxy all around the black AMG cover

Regarding the pedal, do you think it is normal for you to be on your 3rd pedal while many others are still running on their original? Something is wrong.

Or the part was simply not reliable; I have an SL600 that this year alone had a ABC hose fail, both coils fail, trunk mechanism, etc Thats one a 50K mile car.
Its luck of the draw, not sure why there has to be a deeper issue here; the code matched the issue, the repair fixed the issue. The first pedal failed at 125K+ miles, not sure that is abnormal. The systems were still present until after I changed the pedal, now gone.

I have a rebuilt TB On the way I had ordered just in case....should I go ahead and replace it? Sounds like I have to buy a harness also?

To add insult to injury, today Mercedes of Barrington called to offer a free diagnosis scan and inspection of my cars. (Sales promotion) not part of this post...could have used that call a few days ago.

The dealership is required to test the parts and print out SDS diagnostic data when there is a warranty claim on certain items. They don't take your word for it from a scanner. There isn't a problem with the warranty claim procedure you just didn't want to do it because you are unsure of you own diag and don't want to chance it if there was a different issue. If the job was bigger say a turbo and another shop put it in I am sure you would be glad to have them replace and install it for free. The dealership gets paid to put that part in labor and parts they will be out of nothing, MBUSA pays for everything with markup to the dealer.

Again, appears I was correct...2 days of driving, no issues. From the threads on this forum appears even when in the dealership service department they struggle to diagnosis this issue. The warranty process is designed to discourage you from making a claim; pure and simple...and you just outlined why they make it so difficult....its a profit opportunity for the dealer...if there is a warranty they get paid....if you don't diagnosis correctly they get paid.

If you didn't diag the car correctly you should pay. They have to pay the tech they are paid on flag time per job they work on. You think they should offer free diagnoses because the customers thinks they know whats wrong with a pep boys scanner? There would be free parts handed out all day even if they are not broken by the terms you feel you are owed. You wouldn't have been out of anything you just want it done your way and that's not how it works.

It's not the same warranty obviously MB covers labor and the part unlike a parts house..So you telling people to buy it elsewhere is bad advice. Especially if it's a big job or they cant DIY and if the company goes out of business like SoCal mercedes parts did good luck on your warranty. MB is nationwide warranty which is covered anywhere. Which is really the hassle to a normal person?
