C55 Coilover advice
Hi I have a 2006 mercedes c55 and I think my shocks are bad so I would like to get coilovers so I could have lower and better stance with good performance. I have bin looking for coils for a long time and I noticed that most coils are for the normal C class not the c55 so would normal C class coils work on the C55 or does the C55 have different suspension, It would be great if anyone could show me some coils for the c55 that are close to 1k. Thanks

I just ordered the Bilstein B14 for my C55 yesterday. The best price I could find them for was on summit racing which was $1,004. I couldn’t find a vendor that had them in stock so they will be special ordered and hopefully I’ll have them by mid April. I was also curious whether these fit specific to the C55 and the person I spoke to at bilstein couldn’t confirm that but said part number 47-100770 will fit the C55. I believe h&r coilovers are the same across the w203 lineup.

I hear that the Bilstein B14 are the best to go for but I want coils with more adjustment like camber and how stiff they are. I have bin talking to BCracing because I live in Tampa area and we mite have something happening with them with me bringing my c55 to there shop and them trying to find coils or making them for the c55.

i can tell you the H&R lowering springs are too low and not even as stiff as stock! i would like something better for sure but dont want to go crazy with spring rates, maybe 20% stiffer? anyone can chime in?

I contacted BCRacing and they could not tell me if they made a setup for the 05 clk55 (same platform). they gave me the number to the manufacturing plant and suggested I called there. My response was "If BCRacing cant tell me if they make a kit for my car I am good, thanks"
The setup needs to be specific to the 55. if not the spring rates are going to be off and the coils in the front wont be able to hold the weight of the 5.4. The next biggest engine offers is a v6 so....

Just got word that the bilstein b14 I ordered are now back ordered until middle of June 🤬. I may just go with b4’s for now because my struts are not in good shape

The B16 are also on special order as well, but I didn’t inquire on the time frame. I’ll call and find out. If not, I think I’m leaning towards B4 and sway bars.

Hey just an update for people interested in coilovers. I attempted to order a set of bilstein b14 a couple of years ago but they were difficult to find so I opted for Bilstein B4 shocks/struts. They were definitely more comfortable than my worn out units. But understeer was still horrible. I had then installed h&r front and rear sway bars and it helped a lot with the understeer but it made the car pretty stiff and the C55 didn’t feel like a C55 anymore. With advice, I had the front sway bar removed and I drove it on the bilstein B4’s and rear sway bar for about a year. It was better than before but I still wasn’t happy. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a set of Bilstein B14 coilovers. I purchased them through Lmperformance and they were delivered within a week. It’s been about a week since they were installed and what a difference! Comfort is very close to stock if not better. I have had h&r coilovers on a C32 before and these are far superior. Some understeer is still there but I can live with it. Performance wise it’s great. It feels more balanced than before and much more flat around the bends. All in all, I wish I waited and bought the bilstein B14’s in the first place. They are worth the wait!

About your B14's, how much did you lower your car with the coilovers? The product description indicates 30-50mm of lowering, with 30mm being the minimum amount of lowering. I assume this refers to the amount of lowering relative to regular W203's, rather than the C55 or other sport model W203's since the part number applies across the W203 range. So, I'm wondering if it would be possible to maintain stock-ish C55 ride height with these coilovers. I would appreciate an improvement in handling while maintaining some comfort, but don't feel the need to lower the car.

Hi.....A couple of years ago, I completed in-depth due diligence via telephone calls and emails on KV, Spax, Koni's, Bilsteins', etc. when the back-order was 3 to 6 months in the USA. My survey found that "out-of-the box" they're all shorter than oem shocks and struts depending on the manufacturer. The only remedy to keep as near as "stock ride height" for the rear shocks is to buy the black "donut" spring shims that that range in size from 5mm to 17mm (0.669 inches). The MB dealers sell them and I paid $8 (wholesale) each. They fit directly on top of the spring which restricts body travel which can be measured as the size thickness difference of the new shim vs. the factory oem shim. Again, depending upon the "aspect ratio".
Personally, I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 275/35/18 on the 9.5" rear wheels and 245/35/18 on 8.5" front wheels with recently installed Bilstein B6 sport performance shocks & struts. Nothing rubbing after some slight fender lip/rolling.
Good luck with your decision...

I was hesitant on buying any coilover system because I did not want to lower my car. I’ve done it before and scrapping got old real quick. Attached are a few pictures. The B14’s were set at the highest position possible. I also went went from a 225 front to a 235 front. There hasn’t been any rubbing at all. To me, it looks close to factory ride height.
