Weight savings

Folks,

I am finding ways to trim weight off the car aside from removing backseats and electronics. What are other forms of weight savings that people have done here, unsprung and sprung weight-wise?

TIA

compared to the C32 brakes... they were a few lbs lighter. but this is unsprung weight, which is more significant than anythin else.

The brembo kit takes off 13 lbs of unsprung weight on each of the front wheels.

I am not sure how much the rear kit saves.

That is 26 pounds of unsprung weight which is pretty significant and that is on the front so you should notice better turn-in etc.

In addition it stops more consistently and doesn't fade or overheat.

The only unfortunate part of this is that it needs 18" wheels.

I unfortunately have to let go of my brand new brembo kit as I don't want to be swapping wheels and I would rather put that money to use on my track car.

PM me if anybody is interested.

Doesn't anyone make a lightweight brake kit for the C32 that will work with 17" wheels?

Replace the front seats and save over 100 lbs. Gut the interior and capture another 200 lbs. Run without a spare.

Depending on the 17" wheel, the proper inner dimensions will clear a BBK. 328mm is done all the time on 17's and will perform better than the stock 345mm. You can fit 332 and 355 within some wheels.

Parsith, what size Brembo kit do you have? Front only or Front and Rear? What did you pay? How much do you want to sell for? What wheels do you have and in what size?

The seats are way too nice to be touched so I will just leave them the way they are. The brake upgrades sound promising, but I absolutely have no desire to replace my stock wheels. The spare? Yeah, I can take that out and save some lbs but I am much more interested in carving weight from the front end. Anyone has carbon fiber/aluminum hoods, or titanium headers?

How about..

BATTERY RELOCATION.
An Optima would be nice as well, but has anyone re-located the stock battery, which is mounted way up HIGH in the front to the rear trunk (like in the 2000 c class sedans)???

If you are thinking about going to the extent of Carbon Fiber and Titanium Headers (can you tell me what that is please) etc then you should definitely consider changing your stock wheels. The stock wheels are 28 lbs each and that is the rotational weight too so that is like 4 times what you would gain from replacing body weight. Get HRE's with race treatment and save 40 lbs or get the Flik wheels that Mr. Vome` (aka Vomit) has and save even more.

The seats are very nice and I wouldn't want to replace them unless they are some really nice seats. I think AMGRider has replaced his, at least I saw on one of his pics and they simply look awesome. There is nothing sexier than a benz with some nice racing seats (is that what they were?). AMGRider do you have any pics of your interior. please post??

The battery is a good idea. Anyone know how much effort would be involved to rewire everything? I suppose doing the optima battery is a worthwhile upgrade when I get around to it but at my skill level and with this car is 30 lbs really that noticeable? I dunno to some it is worth it but I will do it when I need to replace the stock one.

The kit I have is the Brembo GT BBK. It is 355mm and I only have the Fronts.

I was told they would only fit on 18" by several different people. The caliper itself doesn't seem larger than the AMG ones but the rotors are. I think you will have trouble with the rotors but I never put it next to the stock rotors to compare.

The rotors themselves look awesome and are cross-drilled.

I am not sure what pads they come with but they do have steel braided lines.

They are still in the box and all I did was take them out check the components and weigh them.

PM me if you are interested.

Prasith

PS: Sorry for posting 3 times but I couldn't figure out how to quote all three. Funny thing considering that my life revolves around computers.

Lets be honest here: That is true.

I have a 300 pound friend I stick in my car sometimes when I race, and he's one of those big guys who "knows everything" about a car. He tells me I should lose this and that to get some weight out of the car, etc. I ask him one day, "What if you werent sitting there, how much better would the car perform?" He was then quiet for some time... I just wanted to make a point

I am not overweight a single pound, so Subway will have no use for me

I am not sure how much weight would make a difference on a heavy torquey car such as this.

It certainly does make a difference though especially on karts. I lost 10 pounds when I had a bad case of the flu and when I got on the karts afterwards what a difference less weight made.

However I gained it back shortly thereafter and my lap times are back to what it was

Now I have to go back to working on my driving skills. Damn
