What tires are working good at the track? With the lack of negative camber and the tendency to eat the outside tread block quickly, what tires are holding up better than others?
The Sport Cup's and Corsa's have worn quickly on the outside according to some accounts. Anyone have the PS2's out on the track. How are the V700's?, although not available in all sizes. Norm and others, what is your take? Anyone run the Dunlop SP Super Sport Race yet? Dunlop does not list them yet on their web site. It should be better than the SP9000, but that is not saying much. I wonder if they are equal to the other competition previously mentioned or if they excel and are just shy of the DOT street legal race tires. I am replacing my two front Toyos tomorrow. They will wear out at the same time as the rears in about two months. Looking at finding my next set of street/track tires, and I will buy one of them now to fit on my new spare ASA ST3.

Dunlop North America will not be importing the SSR's, but will find there way here from Germany through a selected group of race distributors. I spoke with a team manager today that just got back from Watkins Glen who tested the SSR's on a few Porsches in both 225 40 18 / 275 35 18 and 235 40 18 / 285 35 18 and said the 996 chassis liked the smaller combo better. They were running up to 8/10th of a second quicker on the SSR's than on their previous Sport Cups. He did not know the tread depth, but said that they did not need to be shaved and had more tread depth than the Hoosiers or Goodyears. He guesstimated between 4-6 10th's of depth. He also said that they looked like they ran a little wide. This will be my next set of street tires if they fit.
Vadim, on your new BBS wheels in 8.5 ET30 fronts, did you run the 235 or 245 size and did they rub under hard cornering?

I run the V700 and apart from my rubbing problems I really like it. I didn't realize the full power of my brakes until these tires warmed up and were gripping.
I am going to be ordering new front's because I will have my carlson put on in the next week or so. Since there was already rubbing with the stock strut tube I think the Carlsson will be worse. Plus I don't won't to rub off that pretty blue paint
I am probably going to go with 225/45 on the front.
Once these wear out I am going to try the pirelli's in 18" size.
I do have a question about the carlsson coilovers in terms of ride height. I have sent you a PM. Can you please take a look and give me your thoughts?
Also I was at watkins glen last weekend (friday, sat, and sun) and let me tell you the conditions for racing were less than ideal. It rained most of the weekend and was very humid. There were many cars that went off and several that sustained some pretty heavy damage.
It may be that the SSR's are better due to the extremely wet and humid weather. It would downpour for an hour and then the sun would come out making for a somewhat dry but dangerous track.
I plan on trying the pirelli corsa's or the RA next. I am also looking for light, cheap 18" track tires. I don't really care how they look. Any suggestions?

For track wheels, try the ASA ST3's at $209.00 each in 18". These are licensed by BBS and available through the tire rack I will let everyone know how they fit when I install them friday.
Don't worry about rubbing off the blue paint on the Carlssons. There is none on any part of them. Just polished turned aluminum.
What wheels are you running again? Why not try 235's?

I have victoracers on the front and rear and instead of replacing all of them I just want to change out the front as they are the ones that are rubbing. Unfortunately no 235 in the victoracers.
I do want to make the jump to 18" so I may not even do the victoracers and instead do the corsa's.
I Look forward to hearing how the ASA's work out. Do you know how heavy those are?
I put the HRE's on and the jump to 18" really helps the handling. I will do a full writeup on what I noticed.
Those porsche's were awesome. There were two Ferrari GT cars that caught my eye. A Cadillac that got pretty busted up and was towed away. Also one of the

My favorite though was the porsche's. The brumos Porsche GT3 was a screamer. I had a hot pit pass so i was down there and the sound would give me goose bumps.
This was the first time seeing the daytona prototypes and I must say that I was not that impressed. They sound a little boring as well.
All in all it was a really good time. I just wish the weather was better.

Don't run two different manufacturer's tires on the car at the same time, especially at the track as the compound and handling characteristics will not match and affect the braking and computer assistance programs. Not a good idea. Why don't you run a 5mm spacer for the fronts instead and keep Victoracers on?
