whats so special about my c32 now?

Now that the 2005 c class "sport sedans" come with the AMG body kit, bigger brakes (same as amg, just a different color), upgraded suspension, what makes my 2003 C32 exclusive? the Motor and speedshift tranny? I basically paid 17k more for my fully loaded C32 vs. a fully loaded 2005 C230 sport sedan. Oh wait, I have the nice little AMG badge on the trunklid (BS!). Now I know that the AMG kit has been offered since the introduction of the current c class. But here in the states, you could only get that kit standard on the C32. Dont get me wrong, I love my car, but "exclusivity" is now gone in terms of appearance. 17k is such a premium for just a motor. Jeez... I could buy an extra car for that.
Now I just waiting to run into a C230 who has AMG badging on it.
Oh well.... Im just gonna save my pennies and get me a 2002 Porsche 996 turbo
.

I think the hand built AMG engine is worth it.

If you are looking for exclusivity you are in the wrong price bracket. Despite the AMG badge, we are still talking about sub $100K cars here. I know alot of C32 buyers are annoyed that the new C230 sport package has the AMG bodykit, but personally, it doesn't bother me. It doesn't make the C32 look worse, just not as visually distinctive. It still looks good. As for the $17K premium for and engine and transmission... I think it is worth it. You are talking about 2 extra cylinders, a full liter more of displacement and a quality supercharger.... I don't care how a 230 Sport looks, I couldn't deal with the lack of power.

My wife just picked up an 8000 mile 2003 C32 + engine tuning + wheels/tires + suspension + bixenons for $55K. The car is virtually brand new and pushing out 420 hp and 410 lb.ft torque. I felt like it was an absolute bargain.

Your car is red. It is as visually distinctive as it gets. Your thread answered your own question. It's a c32, thats what makes it special

Nothing
They say copying is the greatest form of praise. Imagine how the guy in the C230 must feel if he see you in the real C32 AMG. I would rather have the real deal than to drive in something that pretend to be something it's not. Imagine the feeling when pulling up next to a C230 at a robot and asking him for a race. I bet he wouldn't even look at you.

Don't forget...the new Crossfire SRT-6 has your tranny and hand-built engine. Even though i am a M3 owner, i really dislike MB's recent move to upgrade C230 sport and Crossfire SRT-6. That's just plain wrong to the existing C32 AMG owners! MB is selling you guys out! Apparently, MB does not care about it's EXISTING owners.

BMW is doing a similar thing with Performance Package on regular 3-series. It's not as drastic as MB, but it does worry me a little bit. Hopefully, they won't do anything more....

The sports package is an attempt by MB to individualise customer's cars. I am sure they are well aware of issues and I think it gives customer who couldn't afford a C32 or C55 some access to AMG styling

I don't see anything wrong with it

I actually kindof like that. Mopar will probably release all kinds of cool performance parts for this motor. Have you seen the staged kits Mopar has been releasing for the SRT-4? If they do similar stuff for the SRT-6 it will be awesome!

You'll never find me in the passenger seat with my wife driving unless she's driving me to the hospital.

Thai is right....

DC is selling all Benz customers out. Too damn many cars! No exclusivity, no resale, less service. See my prior post about your trade in....I say again, go back to the old days when there were less cars, more margin, better resale, and most importantly CAR PEOPLE who CARED in the organization.

The torque is the reason enough for the price diff.

Supply and demand... AKA, BUSINESS... Do you think for one minute that DC/MB is going to cut production on a very popular, sub $50k vehicle for the sole purpose of making people feel as though they are driving an "exclusive" model?

Name one MB model that is "exclusive", other than the SL65, CL65, or Maybach?

Ditto, MB has really screwed up on this one! What BMW has done is add a little something extra to bridge the gap between the 330 and the M3 although it still has different bodywork, barkes and interior. Not even close to the M3 in any way. I own an M car too and don't feel screwed over when I see a 330Ci Sport.

What I think when I see on '05 with an AMG kit or an SRT-6 is that this company will do whatever it takes to boost sales.

The C32 is still exclusive and a wonderful car but an AMG motor in a Crossfire and an AMG sport package on a C230?! Please!

The M3 is the best car they make.. The C32 is not.. That makes a huge difference.

M3 is the best 3 series they make, but they've also got the 645, the 760, the z8, the m5 -- are all higher than the m3....
