Yesterday, I replaced my battery and I started up the car. Everything seemed ok, no CEL. Put it in Drive and drove about a 1/4 mile, before I noticed that it was still in 1st gear. i tried to toggle the shift control and noticed it can only go into C or M mode. Manual shift wouldn't work, although the number would go up and down. I limped the car back home, at about 25 mph. As I pulled into a parking spot, I recalled something about re-syncing the car after disconnecting the battery. I did the window/sunroof/steering/COMAND sync and car shifts like it should. I thought I'd share this, as I never thought the syncing had anything to do with the transmission.

I’m going to also change my battery when I pull the car out for spring here in a couple of weeks (Canada). I had no idea you had to “re sync” the car?????

Only my sunroof needed resetting after swapping batteries.

These ECUs are tricky. Some people can **** off the ESP/traction control and kill a set of tires I'm 3 minutes (thankfully my car will do this) and some barely get a chirp before Mother Benz steps in. Same with the sunroof reset. Some need to, some don't.

Makes zero sense that a sunroof reset would control the trans though. My sunroof didn't want to work after, but that was it.

I remember this happened to my C55 before. I believe I connected the car to STAR and disabled the paddle shifters then turned them back on and it worked again.
