Thanks for your response. What I do is basically the same idea that renntech does to their air boxes. I cut them and make them higher in the back. Remove flaps and things that slow down air movement. Than I sand and prime and paint so the air box will look like new. My C55 air box has not been in a dyno (far as I know) but renntech's box does 10HP-10QT. So mine should do the same. I don't own a C55 yet so can't say how it performa. BUT,my customers have emailed me and some posted here how well it performs. I have a W202 C43 and I mod for that car and this air box has been in a dyno and made 10HP-10QT. And because the engine now breathes better with my box the car runs better in the hot summer.
I got one of Speed43's modified airboxes with fast flow elbows for my stock '06 C55 last August. His airbox is slightly larger, so there's more air volume and the elbows enable better air flow. His workmanship is really clean too. No dyno performed, but anecdotally, I can say that it definitely added a better response that I could feel through acceleration. A bit more "torquey" is how I would describe it. You can also search this forum for other members who say similar.
As an added plus, it also enhanced the exhaust note nicely too. A month later, I upgraded with the OE Tuning kit, and combined, my C55 pulls through gears noticeably stronger and faster which required 2 new Michelin 4S on the rear much sooner than I had planned! -c
