Hey everyone Skytow here and a MB newb.
looked at a 2005 C55 today. Car was always garaged and it shows. Great service history and long term ownership. 88K miles but lots of good service to include valve cover gaskets, motor mounts, spark plugs and a transmission service all with receipts. I was however surprised at the sort of whining noise when first started. Owner attributed to gear driven cams. It did diminish in about a minute. Is this normal? I’ve not looked at another of these yet so I have no reference.
thanks!

Think I just answered my own question by listening to some cold start videos on BaT. Definitely the same sound. Looking forward to closing this deal and joining the group with my first MB.

Definitely normal. All evidence so far points to the oil pump, by design, not defect.

Short whine at start is oil pump gears. Constant whine, if present is usually caused by a failing idler pulley
Brought her home this evening. What a ride. Will post a pic when it’s light out and I can get a pic.
