After market Xenon

Anyone tried installing aftermarket xenons? do they look good? I did not get the lighting package because the salesperson told me the lighting package only included the sidestep light and headlamp defroster. That the bi-xenon came standard in the amg models, what a load of BS... I talked to the sales manager today and was told that they cannot replace my headlamps for bi-xenon because of some different wiring involved with the xenon. Is this true? I dont know if to trust the dealership (Chambers Motor Cars, Summervile) anymore.

Its true but not to that extent. You want Bi-xenons because of the projector and housing. You dont want HID's in a reflector housing. I woulnt go with anything over stock which = 4100-4300K the color you get is from the projector and not all the capsule (aka Bulb). Dont go for kits or asian import's anything over 4300k or Phillips genuine ultinon 6000k isnt quality.

Get the Bi-xenons and a upgraded 9006 harness to provide the HID's with pure power form the battery.

Bi-xenon is the projector which has hi/low beams in one it flips a shield by electronic motor to go from low to high or vise versa. If you get anything after market like a kit you will just be putting HID's into your halogen reflector housing which will cause alot of glare and not get the color and output hid's provide.

OR...

You can contact Sunman on this board or Steve (www.mbenznl.com)

they have kits that will make the car look just like it would have if it came w/ the bi-xenon package. you will NOT have washer jets down there, and it will NOT have auto leveling.

expect to pay between 1100-1300 for the job.

you need a dealer to activate it in the star system.

Make sure you mention its a C55 so that they get you the app. CLK lights.

I am in progress of doing this at the moment.

feel free to PM w/ any questions

Thanks for the info, I will change to bi-xenon in a month or so. The standard ones are still very good, but its not the same, I had xenons in my old car and kinda feel downgraded. I think its very strange for a 60k car to come with a plain old bulb.

BTW - I talked to Corey in Service at Foreign Motors West in Natick, MA. He said if I provided OEM bi-xenons (ordered from steve in NL), he could install them for around $250-300.

That’s great news Hantzis! I was told by Bob, (I think that’s he's name, the first service office on the right, when you drive into the service department. I remember he's the one with all the fenway posters) that they could not install MB factory bi-xenons. I will talk to Corey next time I’m there. I don’t care about the auto leveling or defrost futures I just want bi-xenons. Either way I am grateful for your help. I will let you guys know what I decide to do.

Yeah, they told me that also at first. Apparently in the 01-02 C32s it is a huge pain to install bi-xenon's but in the 03-04s, it is much easier. Not sure why, but after Corey talked with a service mechanic, he told me they can do it, but the lights HAVE to be OEM>

While we are on the subject,
why doesn't MB offer a CD player standard in a $50K C32 AMG? I think that is more upsetting!

Any updates on your upgrade? Did you get them? How did they look? How long did it take? Did you encounter any complications during the installation?
thanks

Doesn't offer them on the (even more expensive) 996 !!!!

Unbelievable, considering my wifeys Accord came with a decent Pioneer system

Guess there is still a strong love affair in Germany with the cassette tape (maybe we should ditch all these newer MP3-Type systems for that wonderfull 8-TRACK system of old....)
