Well, it appears that the whine is my P/S pump sucking air. I had the parts guy here at the dealership do a search for a pump. Discontinued. None at other dealers stateside and zero in Germany. Does anyone know where one might be obtained or if that pump is interchangeable with another part#? You would think these would last longer than 218K miles.

Probably the beginning of quite a few parts than may become obsolete for a low production 20 plus year old car.the belt drive stuff especially.
