no water is getting past the seals on the door so I dont think thats it.
It doesnt stink when I turn my AC on, so I dont know if thats it either. Maybe something crawled into my car and died

i noticed that when accessing the battery, there is a box which i believe goes to the AC which has a filter in it and that i think dust accumulation or getting that filter wet can make the AC smell. it's mounted on top of the battery, and unhooking 3 simple clips will take it off. maybe try cleaning this to see if it works

Not knowing exactly where the smell comes from it's hard to say, however there was a M-B tech bulletin in September of 03

it's probably worth a call to your dealer, good luck

I am getting this smell now as well. It almost smells like bad B.O. I stuck my nose into the leather and smelled around but the odor is not there unless the car is running. I have to have the roof open. It appears that it is better with the recirculation button activated though. Anybody else getting this? We are into our fall wet rainy season, but today was sunny.

Mine started to stink about two months ago. The dealer cleaned the A/C filter and sprayed some goodsmellingstuff through the vents. The problem still exist, but to a lesser extent. I image replacing the filter will solve the problem.

Unfortunately, after 2 months after the full replacement, the bad moldy smells from the vents returned - especially at startup. My service advisor was very frustrated - as was I.
